Just when I thought it was over.....

I have two daughters and both are pregnant. One is due in early Dec and the other in early Jan. My girls are 14 months apart and they have always been very close, people often thought they were twins. So, I am ever so happy that they are going through this miraculous time together. Which was planned but that's another story. So, I've given them graduation parties and Sweet 16's and bridal showers and weddings and I thought I was "done" with all that. But not so fast Mama....lol They want me to give them a joint baby shower. I do love showers of any type but I wasn't expecting to throw a baby shower, much less a big joint shower. We just had daughter #2's wedding in June. My babies are having babies so, obviously, I can't refuse. I don't want to refuse anyway. I suppose I just wish that their cousins or friends hosted the showers. They are like me, they don't like surprises, they will know the when and where of the shower and they can give me their guests lists but I won't share any of the details with them. That has to be a surprise. And I don't want it to be a co-ed shower. The dads can come at the end to take mama and the presents home, the way it's traditionally done. I'm thinking 2nd Sunday in November with a pale green and yellow color story. A little bit of a bummer since hubby and I were talking about going somewhere warm for 4 or 5 days before the Holidays. We'll have to push that out until the end of January now.

Ah, @chrystaltree. Just think of all the elaborate kiddy birthday parties you have to look forward to as well as other celebrations. It's not nearly over...its just getting started.

Chrystaltree, congratulations on the upcoming grandkids. I'm sure you're excited and obviously want to celebrate with your daughters, but at the same time, you'd love a short getaway with your husband. can you plan to leave a few days after the shower? if it's the expense you're concerned about, how about you set a very specific budget for the shower, and then for your trip, and see where that can take you two. it would be great if everyone was happy, so I hope you can find a way to make it all work. maybe you can all sit down and talk about it. good luck!

Enjoy every minute with your grandbabies! Mine are now 12 and 14, and I miss being able to bathe them in the sink!!

Congratulations to the mothers and fathers-to-be as well as the grandparents-to-be.

I must be dense as I do not see why you would have a joint shower. Surely the girls have different friends and obviously different in-laws. You would be dealing with an extremely large group.

Many ladies complain about attending showers and go only because they feel obligated. Sitting through 2 guests of honor opening gifts will be a long drawn out affair.

I would think 2 smaller showers in October and November would be more personal and doable.

Congratulations on the grandchildren! Though it seems like the girls' friends and/or a cousin should have hosted the shower. It seems rather unusual for the guests of honor to prevail on their mother to throw a party.

First, accept my heart felt congradulations! Next, this must be your first time as grandmother! If not, you wouldn't even remember you and dh were planning to go anywhere! lol

I agree, someone other than you should be the hostess. Unfortunately, traditions have changed. It used to be considered in poor taste for the immediate family to give a shower. Now, the poor family has to bear the expense of all parties from engagement party through all baby showers to 25th Anniversary and more!🙄 But, because you love your girls you will happily give them the most wonderful showers they could possibly have! Then, prepare for the greatest joy you will ever know when you hold those precious babies and realize they are yours! God bless you all!

Thanks to everyone! I didn't know how much I was looking foward to being a Nana until our girls ande their announcements. I do love doing parties so I'm really looking forward to planning this special one. My bff is godmother to both my girls and she's very close to them. She'll help out. She's almost excited as I am!

IN my neck of the woods close relatives do not throw baby or bridal showers as it is considered to,smack of "gift grabs". A friend of the bride or mother to be or more commonly a friend of the mother of the future bride or the mother to be gives the shower. SUprised that your BFF did not offer to host it especially since she is both girls godmother.

However, I think you better re-think the trip. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't imagine you going through 2 births with your daughters, and then just taking off and leaving everyone. Maybe mid November? Valentine's Day?

Agree @KathyPet, usually the close relatives don't hold the showers.
