50 By 50

Anyone remember QVCs 50 by 50 tour? I think 50 states in 50 weeks. Bought some fantastic tiered bowls from the stop in Texas. Just used them (again) tonight. Then actually went to the stop in S Dakota. Still have the pics from the show they did at Mt Rushmore. Fascinating to watch how the show is produced. Early 90's maybe? So much fun - a great part of QVC history!!

I think another 50/50 would be a great idea except that small sellers/entrepreneurs might not do as well today as they did then. I LOVED it.... was introduced to Jeanne Bice with her basically men's shirts with contrasting appliqued fabric on top and those wonderful button covers.... I realize that they are hopelessly out of date and ladies only want to wear the Halston (one style, tissue fabric) today, but it was exciting back then.

I also loved Phyllis George and bought a lot of Americana household items (not a glass sphere anywhere).....

And Molly Dallas....

I think they COULD do it again but it would take some imagination (no computers or mattresses)....

I remember it. I have taken the tour at QVC and it is mentioned on the tour. There is a piece of the bus on display in the hallway at QVC, as well as the lottery style machine that they used to pick numbers. If the numbers matched your Q card and you called in, you won a prize

Didn't know there was a tour. Will have to swing by there next time we do a road trip from FL to upstate NY.

Thanks to that 50/50 Tour, I've had to pay sales tax on Q purchases for years. Wasn't worth it.

QVC no longer has the vendor base, nor do they want it, to do that sort of operation again. They are now the infomercial channel.

I remember those shows more because of the concept than because I bought anything that was shown. I do think it would be harder to do those shows today than it was in the 90's. QVC is so much bigger and the cost to new entrepreneurs to get so many items manufactured would be huge.

I keep hearing the venture capitalists on Shark Tank in my mind - they don't want to put their money toward much that isn't tried and true. Getting started sounds very difficult.

I still have one of Jeanne's first sweaters. A simple lighthouse and nautical scene. All woven. No appliques - won my heart to her for many follow-on products.

I remember those shows, I believe that's where they discovered Jeanne Bice. Fun to watch but I don't recall if I ever bought anything.

I remember watching the show back then. Loved it. I also remember Molly Dallas. Still have a few pieces. Wish I could get more!! Also wish they could do the tour again.

They had some inventors, including a guy who invented a shovel helper handle that I still have. When I bought them (I bought 2) I lived in an apartment but they seemed like such a smart ideal that I had to have them. They are a rigid v-shaped piece of plastic with pipe straps to attached the handle to a shovel and they are fabulous for shoveling snow. They make some shovels with the bend that look something like it, but these are great and allow you to really swing the snow away without doing yourself a mischief. I bought a few other things from the tour and many items sold out fast, but the handles remain a favorite still today. Now people think you have to be the best and destroy the competition to be successful. Some of the sprouts are in the 50 in 50 spirit.

Their Sprouts program seems to have entrepreneurs much like the 50 in 50 tour did.
