I read up to the end of page 4 but it was pretty much the same (as it would be if I were saying stuff).

Ahhhh!!! That famous F word. So here's something I've always wondered (I've pondered for many a year)......

Who decided which words were 'inappropriate, curse words....and so on"? I searched long and hard and never been ever to find the answer.

I have had people use the F word in front of me and then gasp and apologize. I look at them and say, "That's OK, there are times when it just 'fits':". I really feel that way.

To me they are just words. Do I want people sitting (or standing) and spouting them out? NO! Did my late husband and I curse in front of our daughters? No!

Even when they became adults, we seldom did. I've never believed in the old adage, "Do as I say, not as I do".

I've heard my daughters use a few curse words, but not very often.

I once said to my granddaughter, (while trying to climb some steps), "Honey! Grandma's too fat for this". She said, "Grandma that's a bad word". I said, "What's a bad word?" She said, "Fat". I had to explain to her (which I'm sure my daughter has already done) it's wrong to use it to be mean to people.

I love being around my guy friends. There are a few of them when it's appropriate I'll use a few choice words.

I can't say I know anyone who curses all of the time or much at all. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't like the way people can now sometimes cuss on TV. I really believe if society is going to continue to evolve in the right direction, it needs to have citizens who are civil to each other and that includes not spouting out constant cuss words......

But then, like I said, "I don't think there are many people who sit and cuss just to be doing it".

Oh! I almost forgot. I was just this week telling my friend that my daughter was a lifeguard at a large waterpark when she was in high school. A young guy she worked with had Touretts. I didn't realize it and I heard him spouting out cuss words like crazy.....I asked her about him.

She said, "Oh! That's John! He's a really neat guy. He has Turrets. He only cusses like that when he gets nervous and usually he's in the back area." She said, "His mom says to him they are just words and she's explained he shouldn't use them in public."

I think I must be more liberal about things than I had any idea because I've never judged someone about their looks, their clothes or if they throw out a few F words now and then.

I think many of you feel similar to me. I could hang out with many of you and if I used the F word (and it fitted) I don't think you'd put a bar of soap in my mouth......would you?

ps....Hello to sweet @ECBG

I don't know if I'm just becoming a "prude" in my old age or what but it seems to me that profanity is becoming more rampant both on the street and on social media. I'm concerned about my grandchildren being exposed to language at home that my children never were (because my daughters-in-law don't seem to have had the same morals instilled in them that my sons had) but I guess if they don't hear it at home, they're going to hear it and read it everywhere else anyway. I personally find the "F" word extremely offensive but am exposed to it daily, even at work. I just find it sad. Thanks for letting me rant.

I've noticed that the "f bomb" seems to be dropped quite casually the past few years. Hearing it still makes me cringe. I guess it's just a part of a more liberal & casual society than it was when I was a kid in the 50s.

More of the coarsening of our culture. We are all a bit to blame. Who didn't chuckle the first time we heard a young person in a movie use a swear word? The film and TV industry has since been sliding down that slippery slope. I hope the pendulum will swing back the other way soon. My 2¢ worth.

Where the f-bomb really bugs me is when it's used in film dialogue in nearly every line. If it's a film I'm watching at home I'll turn it off after about 10 minutes.

Just can't take that and it seems like a cop-out if that's all the screenwriter can use for dialogue. Even in old films, the sordid characters had interesting dialogue.

Now, that's not to say that I don't throw the occasional f-bomb. But it's very occasional. Except when I'm driving.

It's a result of a limited vocabulary and declining virtue. I'm far from being perfect, but I do get sick of hearing people open their mouths (often in front of small children) and speak nothing but vulgarity.

I recently heard a man throw out the F Bomb in a public setting and I said to him, "bless your heart!

I think the f-word is pretty much a part of our society now. I bet some people who go on about raising their children "right and with morals" would be very surprised how they talk when not around their mothers!

When I was about 15 my Mother told me that there were many words in the English language to express any emotion I might be feeling. Her challenge to me was to use one of them rather than a profane word. It was something I took to heart and now many years later, I still try to abide by that.

i own a business in an industry that is mostly men......and i hear profanity on a daily basis. i am not really one that uses too many curse words, but i think i have gotten used to hearing it. i definitely DONT agree that people who use it have a limited vocabulary.

i have recently raised three children and if you go into their high school you will hear profanity in the halls pretty frequently.
