Macy's Credit Card ? (Citibank)

I'm perplexed -- I made a large purchase and opened a Macy's card to save another25% ($82 savings). The next month I paid it off and today I received my statement. I have 0 balance but a $2 service fee.

I called CS they tell me to have their card there is a monthly fee if you don't use 😳 I asked to have it removed -- was told I haven't used the card - this fee keeps it "active". Strange I have other store cards I haven't used and I don't get charged!

I want to cancel it but I've heard if you close cards it affects your credit. Not sure if this is true BUT I really don't shop Macy's and of course, high interest and I never carry a balance (I have Visa cash back card I normally use).

anyone else know about this fee for Macy's charge OR shall I just cancel because honestly, i don't want to pay for something I don't use every month.

How strange. I have a Macy's card and I don't have these charges at all placed on my bill. I haven't made a charge in months over some trouble with an order I had with them. To get a 2 dollar charge placed for the reason you stated that never happened to me.

My Macy's credit card is with AmEx. I've never paid any fees, and I've gone many months without using it.

I have a Macy's store card and AMEX card - never paid a fee for either. Sounds like a Citibank fee.

Something is wrong here. I just read the credit card agreement on line and it states that if you pay your balance each month in full by the due date you will not be charged interest. There is nothing in that agreement about any monthly fee to keep the account open. Absolutely nothing!!!. It does say that IF YOU ARE CHARGED I TERST THE AMOUNT WILL NOT BE LESS THAN $2.00 BUT THAT IS ONLY IF YOU ARE SUBJECT TO A INTEREST CHARGE. If you pay the bill in full prior to the due date each month there is no interest charged and no "service fee". I would call the phone number listed on the back of the card and get a better explanation of why this charge appeared.

I go months at a time and not use my Macy's card. I have had it for years and have never been charged a monthly fee for not using it. Doesn't sound right to me. My card is a Macy's / American Express Card. I never use it as an AMX card but Citibank has never charged me a fee for not using it.

I also have a Macy's card. I have not used it in a couple of years and I do not get an any charges for that. I just went an looked at the card and it is not AMEX or Citibank - it is just says Macy's. I would close the account.

If you still have the paper statement go and look carefully at it. Do not just look at the balance due. Look at the transactions shown on the bill. If the charge was a interest charge it will be identified as a interest charge. If it was some other fee like you mentioned it will be identified as such on that bill. What was the due date on the statement? Was your payment in full received by that due date? We're there any other charges on there that you did not pay in full that might have accrued a interest charge? If you do not have a paper copy of the bill then go on line to Macy's website and establish a user ID and password which will enable you to view your statements on line so you can see exactly what this $2.00 fee is for.

Also do not call Macy's customer service. Make sure you call the number for the actual bank who issued the card which will be on the back of the credit card.

i have a Macys charge from 1997. mine was issued by Dept Stores Natl Bank ( subsidiary of CitBank) and i quit using it a year ago. they were charging interest forward from the day of purchase - unlike the past when interest was accrued on any unpaid balance. i returned several items before the bill closing date and i was charged interest on the items before i made the return, before the bill closing date. last fall i got some sort of policy update from them about $2 charges so i no longer use the card.

there are many many consumer complaints about this $2 charge on the web

Never had this problem with my Macy's card issued by Citibank. I've closed accounts and my FICO score wasn't affected.

My Macy's Card is from Credit Card National Bank. I use mine once in a while and it never gives me a service fee for not using it.

I was trying to figure out how to post a copy of the statement. I charged $47.11 and paid $47.11 due. This month it has "fees charged $2.00".

Bottom line is I'm calling again to speak to a supervisor. My sister also said she has never been charged...hmmm something is not right here.

I never carry a balance on any of my dept or regular visa cards.

I too was charged the $2.00 fee,thought nothing of it and paid it even though I had paid my bill in full on time. The next month I was charged again. I did call Macys and after I pushed the # for a problem with your bill a recording came on asking if this was concerning a $2.00 fee on my card. I said yes ans someone came on and credited my account. I will see if I get a bill next month. If I do I will cancel this card. If you cancel a credit card and write to the three credit score companies that you yourself cancelled the card it should not affect your credit score.

my macys card is "managed by Citigroup" but issued by Dept. Store National Bank. Ok, no big deal.

I called today spoke to a nice guy who said "totally understand your concern BUT you've only been a charge customer 6 months and have NOT established a credit history with us." WHAT!!!! Guess I'm on probation.

NO credit for $2 fee but will note I called. No more shopping at Macy's for me on their card. I will send in a letter telling them to close my account at the address he gave me and will make sure they tell the credit bureaus I CLOSED it.

I have had my macys charge for 30 years and have an impeccable credit record so that response would not fly with me. But maybe that's why I received the credit. I will see next month if I receive another $2.00 charge. My balance should be 0.

So it does show up as a "fee" and not as interest. Very interesting. I have had a card for 7 years. I use it occasionally and pay the balance in full when I do use it. I have never been charged any $2.00 fee. The question is why are some card holders being charged this fee while others of us are not?

interestingly if I use it once a month I won't get charged because I'm building my "credit worthiness" with them! Yeah right!!!!
