Shabbat Shalom and Happy Friday. All are welcome to join in here. It started many years ago by Sunny (@sunula) and I'm keeping it going, but try not to make it a religious thread.

BTW, our Temple increased dues and added a building fund for a children's wing to be added. Everyone is expected to add this $200 to monthly dues. Nope, no children to attend there and adding $200 a month for that building when we have no kids to use it? We gave up our membership and are streaming services at Park Ave. Synagogue (NY)....love the cantor Azi Shwartz.

I had a wonderful combo facial, scalp and full body deep tissue massage yesterday. It was so difficult to drive home. Lol. A new place opened a few months ago and I loved it. My back and neck appreciated the relaxed muscles.

Economy seems to be worse, but still praying for peace and no violence. We never know what mall or street or food store will be the next shooting.

My granddaughters are at camp for several weeks and I miss them.

@Shanus - Since Shabbat is the holiest day in the Jewish year and you are "trying not to make (this) a religous thread," it seems that it would be appropriate to change the name of this thread. Thank you for keeping it going.

Hi everyone!

We made it through another week to post on this inclusive, friendly thread. TY @Shanus for keeping this going. I think of @sunula very often when I post here.

@Shanus Funny, I THINK I attended a wedding at that synagogue. I looked it up and looked familiar to me, as well as the surrounding area. It was YEARS ago, so I can't say with 100% certainty.

LOL I feel the same way when I leave the salon after a pedicure, after sitting in the massage chair. My legs are like jello. lol lol

I hope you all have a restful weekend. I hope you do something to recharge yourself for the upcoming week.

If the weather holds up. I'll be outside weeding and setting up the deck furniture.

Today is National Chocolate Chip Day. There is nothing better than a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie, imo.

@Q-Checker Shabbat is the sabbath and is evey Friday of the year. The holiest day of the Jewish year is Yom Kippur.

It seems others enjoy the thread and you don't have to check back here if it bothers you in any way.

I also enjoy the thread. My comment was about nomenclature. There are differences of opinion about the holiest day of the year in Judaism. I am surprised that the mod's have continued to allow the title of this thread, a religious greeting, since topics about religion are not permitted.

When Sunny started this topic every Fri many years ago, she poisted it in Community, and the mods asked her to move it to Among Friends, which she did, seems to be no issue since then.

I am not Jewish, but enjoy reading this thread -- sometimes learn things by reading posts. I have Jewish friends (have for years), but have only been to a wedding in a synagogue many, many years ago, and a funeral more than 20 years ago.

I distinctly remember in junior high school one of my classmates being harassed by one of the teachers (lunch room monitor) about not eating lunch during Yom Kippur. This was before there were days off for Jewish holidays. She explained why she was not eating, and I really felt sorry for her.

The same teacher chastised my friend and I for not buying the special Thanksgiving lunch and eating PB&J sandwiches. I think he was trying to shame us into buying lunch, which we never did (due to the cost and being picky eaters).

I remember friends saying that they needed to buy tickets for services during holy days. But, I did not know that some synagogues require dues payment. Paying an extra $200 a month for a building fund is a shocker to me. I looked up our local temple, and the dues are $400 a year and there are no extra fees for High Holy Days.

I certainly can understand streaming services instead, especially since you love the cantor and can avoid being in potentially unsafe spaces. A few years ago, my small church needed to hire a security guard and add security gates, etc. due to "credible threats". Difficult to understand how some people can be so hateful.

I'm looking forward to a relaxing week ahead. Somebody (ok, it was me!) booked all my routine doctor/dental appts for mid-April to mid-May. Finally finshed them all (add in 2 trips to the car dealership also), and have nothing scheduled for next week!!!!!! I'm so happy.

Also turned 72! Life goes by quickly. And I second the wish for peace and an end to violence.

Going to add - I will listen to music now. I've lived my funk for a while now and will try to listen to music instead of the stuff on the television. Got more clothing donated and that's a relief - almost like losing a pound or two.

@LindaLatte Late getting to replies. I try when there are important holidays to give a bit of explanation since many here are not Jewish.

Unforturnately there is such a small number of "us" that it's necessary to have dues and tickets for some holidays and building funds when necessary. Catholics are growing in numbers and other non-Jews, as well. When they donate on a regular basis (friends say they pledge a % of income), dues are not needed.

DH is from NY and did have holidays when schools were closed. In NC never!!!
