Do you…..

First, I admit I am old, haha, but I was curious if anyone gets a hard copy of a daily newspaper delivered anymore? We do. DH enjoys sitting at the breakfast table, reading the newspaper. I understand by the time we get it, the news is stale, so we also read newspapers on line, along with looking at news outlets.

Growing up, my Dad worked as a printer at the NY Times. One of my brothers had a paper route after school delivering Newsday. My sister used to buy the trashy NY Post for her subway ride each day, which my mom did not approve of, lol...So we had at least three in the house everyday.

A newspaper today is so expensive, and sometimes the guy misses our house. So the question is, did you get newspapers delivered back in the day, and do you continue to receive them today?

Had the paper delivered until 1980, then we just bought the Sunday edition & that stopped in 2009...I don't watch the tv news either, I get my information from several news sources on YouTube.

I would pick up The New York Times everyday for years and read it on the subway, and especially looked forward to the Sunday edition. It was enormous.

I remember frequently seeing an older, well dressed gentleman who would take out a pair of gloves from his briefcase and put them on to read The Times. Those are times gone by.

But I haven't touched a physical newspaper in about 25 years.

There are too many alternatives for news consumption.

I have a subscription at $4.00 a month for the "New York Times" on line. My grandson was featured in it when during Covid he attended a friend's Bar Mitzvah. I also like participating in the comments. Money well spent.

I don't get a hard copy of a newspaper delivered, Blondie59.

My parents subscribed to the local newspaper, so reading a newspaper was part of my childhood.

I used to love reading our local newspaper.

Stopped being a subscriber probably two years ago.

The prices kept going up and the paper was getting thinner, less local stories,

coupons stopped, no longer worth it.

The last year or more we kept getting skipped pretty often and I would be calling

and leaving messages and promised they would extend my subscription and it

was just broken promises.

Get most of my news through local news updates through Facebook. Happier

this way and less waste.

Mom had a subscription to the local paper for probably 30 years; she read it in the morning, my brother read it in the evening, and I got caught up about once a week.

In the early stages of dementia, going to the paper box was a vital part of Moms morning routine. When my brother started noticing the newspaper was untouched in the evenings, we realized she had lost her ability to read, so the subscription was cancelled. Right after we cancelled, the local paper reduced printing a paper to 3 days a week and Sundays. There are no paper boxes for delivery at any of the houses on this road, and you can no longer find the public paper boxes that took coins around this area of WV.

Up here in the "woods" the daily paper is $1.25 weekdays.. about 8 pages...and you have to buy it in the store...I'm not paying to find out who's cow wandered away or who's chicken layed a "double yoker"...or who died and can't be buried until May because the ground is too frozen!..LOL

I do read NYC papers online with my morning coffee.

I've always received and read multiple hard copy papers a day until I moved to a small city that stopped reliving my LA Times. Now I read NYT, Washington Post and usually one other (Wall Street Journal, LA Times, depending on who has a great digital deal). NYT plus Washington Post cost almost nothing digitally. When its time to renew after introductory deal I contact them to cancel and they always offer to continue at intro rate. Btw I do same with Sirius because its all about their circulation numbers to get get advertisers.

Yes, still get a daily newspaper delivered. We need something to line our bird cage with, right? Lol.

And yes it is pretty pricey nowadays. And thin. Even the Sunday edition is thin. The subscription price includes online subscription. 🗞📰

We got the local SF Chronicle paper daily and on Sunday it had the Entertainment "pink section" which was pink paper.

Had all the movies, plays, local concerts, nightclub advertisements and articles. It was a fun read and gave you an idea what was going on culturally.

Herb Caen was a well known columnist posting reminiscing and current articles called Baghdad by the Bay.

My sister submitted stories about me a couple times and they were printed in his column. Also had a feature picture with myself and 2 girlfriends from a Labor Day SF Food Festival.

Many years since I've touched a newspaper but those are great memories

Back in da day, we got 2 deliveries a day.

'we did too that little walk down the garden path but as all say everything is shrunken to not much news at all. I enjoyed it with a cup of coffee on the bar but now there is barely left of anything interesting to read ohhhhh...buy plenty of ads.

It was my favorite as a child until 2 years ago or so. Sunday's took me hours to get through. It was great! A shame this has become the new world. And unfortunately another disappearing act.

People do not read much anymore and that is most ot all of us meaning a hot cup of coffee, croissant, toast, etcetera and the local newspaper. So sad and ever changing each day.

Yes I still get a real newspaper, but only on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette only prints a paper two days a week. Sunday and Thursday. I get the actual paper on Sunday and the rest of the week I get the digital edition. The first week in May there will be no more newspaper at all. I'm so disappointed because reading the paper in the morning has been my morning routine since I was 20 years old. Yes I can read news online, but I like knowing what's going on locally. I'm still holding out hope that someone will buy the paper.💙

Growing up, we had a morning newspaper and an evening newspaper delivered.

After my husband died six years ago, I canceled the daily local newspaper delivery because I couldn't afford it! The price kept going up and is now $40/month for 7 days/week delivery, $480/year. Are they out of their mind? I live on social security, I can't afford that if I want to buy groceries. I love reading an actual newspaper and detest reading a newspaper online.

I have an online subscription to the local newspaper but even that is stupid expensive. And the news is yesterday's news because my town's local paper merged with the newspaper in the next town and they can't publish the newspaper and get it delivered in the morning due to timing and distance issues. Really ticks me off that an actual paper newspaper is now a luxury that I cannot afford. The local tv news shows are abysmal and only focus on death and destruction, not actual local news about the community. So, if I want to know what is going on in my community, I'm stuck with the local newspaper online version. Ugh.

I've been reading the paper daily since I was 12 yrs old (I'm now almost 73). I can't imagine starting my day without it. I think the subscription is now $56.00 per month. I'll keep it until they stop printing which will probably happen at some point in the future. I hope I'm wrong. I would miss it.

We gave up ours quite a few years ago now. Sometimes I miss it, but now there's the internet and I don't have all this paper to get rid of. Saving trees too, I hope.

I get a hard couple 3 times a week and on line as well. I just wanted it on the weekends but they called and threw in Wednesday for no additional cost.

I like to sit and look at the paper and have coffee on the weekends. I like the paper to wrap things and also if I paint and we make a piñata at Easter too. Comes in handy.

My husband read the paper everyday but on line works better for me and also cut down the cost. I changed a few things after he passed. He used to get every channel available on tv and I cut that way back to just basic. I just don't need all that and still way too many worthless channels on the thing.
