19 degrees and snowy sleet on the ground. Obviously still have power and internet, but who knows when the power will go off. I have my little yellow flashlight in my pocket.

Finally got Molly to wear her sweater!!!

It's also very cold here and will not go above the 20s all week!

Which means the ice & snow will not melt. So far we only have a few inches but by this evening we're supposed to get about a foot of snow topped with ice. That scares me since I can't remember getting this much snow topped with ice. It will be impossible to shovel.

My neighbor usually helps but most of the time it's only a few inches. I will have to see how things go and call someone to dig out out if need be.

There were a few local people on the neighbors site that offered snow removal. One went by the inches=cost. Over 12" it was $100.00 plus an additional $15.00 for each car. I made sure to get cash out a few days ago!

I am worried about getting bentley out,he is so small they say we might have over 24 inches.

Our poor dog was limping while walking on the ice. And his paws bled a little. Luckily, we have a Generac Standby Generator in the event there is a power outage.

@goldensrbest - we've got potty pads all over the house. No way we can take our babies out in this weather to do their business. Thank goodness they know what the potty pad is for!

I hope people have enough sense to bring their outside dogs in.

I worry about all the homeless animals out there. How can they survive this weather?

That is so upsetting. I know in my area there are a lot of homeless cats that just wander around hoping for someone to feed them @San Antonio Gal

We'd all limp too walking barefoot on the ice. I know it's suggested for dogs to wear booties does that work for yours?

Tried booties with our little pug, didn't work.

@rockygems123 no, our dog won't wear booties. My sister-in-law just recommended wrapping his paws with ace bandages. He wouldn't let me do that either. We just took him out in our back yard around 9:30 to do his business. As soon as he was finished he came back inside.

Molly said thanks for all the compliments on her in her sweater.

The vet advised washing down her paws when she comes back up because of the salted streets and sidewalks. Not only does it dry out their paws but licking off all the chemicals is certainly not good for them.

@Desert Lily We did, too at our hose. Here at our apartment complex, it seems to be a mixture of sand and salt.

my pup gets tiny snowballs in between his toes. he does not like it one bit!!

so when he comes in, we pull them out then dry his paws.

we got around a foot here, SE PA, with a bout 3 inches of sleet/ice on top, so its a bear to shovel.

no respite this week from the temps, so this will be around for a while....

My Chicago/Michigan grand-dog wears her boots every time she goes outside. She's very accepting, as if she knows that they help her. I wonder what percentage of dogs go along with the boots and how many reject them?

@Boehm Collector You should be putting booties on their paws when you are walking them. Otherwise, they are subject to injury. That is common knowledge among dog owners..Very sad for your dog. Have you tried walking on ice barefoot??
