Did u get an annual merit increase at work?

I just received an increase of 3.25% and I was really disappointed. I really have no basis for comparison, so if you are comfortable sharing this info, what kinds of annual merit increases do some of you get?

our company gives between 2-3 percent not much these days

I work at a university. We are getting COLA & a merit raise. Not that much for the merit. Between 2-3%

The last place I worked we did not. The company I work for now does but I just started in January so probably not this year!

The last raise I got was in 2008. They started cutting our pay with promises that as soon as the economy stabilized we would get raises. In 2015. I decided it was not stabilizing, so I quit. I was making 2x as much in 1992 as I was in 2015.

The average raise was 2%. I got 1.75%. I'll take 3%.

When I worked, 4% was usually the approved maximum raise amount. Each employees individual performance evaluation determined the amount of their raise. I usually scored high enough to get anywhere from 3.50% to 3.85% raise. No one in my department was scored at the excellence level to get the full 4%.

The last company I worked for has not given their employees any type of a raise since 2010. They used to give us a bonus (if you could call it that) of a couple hundred dollars once a year. It's a well known fact that they don't want employees hanging around more that a few years and from what I've heard people are finally getting disgusted enough to leave.

no COLA in 7 years (retired) but am very fortunate to have excellent pension including 100% medical and Rx coverage.

Until I retired at the end of January, for the past 17 years at the same company my raises ranged from 2-3.5%. Two or three years we got nothing. Once I got 4%.

We hadn't had either COLA or "wage adjustment" for years. The WA was comparing our company's wages to those of our closest competitors. We got one the year before I left, so I had one year to enjoy it.

My husband has a small office and his secretary gets 5% each year. My son works for a large bank and received 6%.

I'd say 3.25% is a pretty decent raise for this day and age. People don't get the big, generous raises like they used to. Our city employees here are getting 2.0%. Take it and run with it. I'm retired and will get no raise.

And you NEVER hear the bosses complain............because THEY get "bonuses"......"stock options"..........whatever you want to call the goodies (!) (while we did their work).

Mine was about the same as everyone else here. It was the highest in 3 years.

Last year my raise was....wait for it..... .03%.

There is no way to answer a question like that, All companies are different and the merit increase can vary from position to position and department to department. I have always worked for companies that give employees yearly reviews and merit increases are based on the review. There's often a range. I am a manager now; but the merit increases for my staff are 0 for unsatisfactory; 2% meets the minimum expected; 2.5% for exceeds the minimum expected. It's been that way for about 6 years now. Employees cannot negotiate for more, it is what it is. I remember years ago, merit increases were much higher and we had a category for outstanding, the company dropped that years ago. Even workers who were just seat warmers got 2% back then. But that was before fiscal reality struck.

I work for a large utliity and all employees receive a merit raise each year that averages 3% per person. I consider it a cost of living raise more than anything. Gone are the 8%-10% merit raises of long ago. I'm happy as long as I receive something each year, because you hear of so many people who never receive raises.

I can relate to that! I remember those 8%, 9% pay increases. Those days are long gone. We actually had 3 years during which there were no merit increases. So, when they came back with the 2-2.5% increases, no one complained.

I remember them too. They lasted throughout the 70s and most of the 80s and started to disappear in the 90s. I used to get merit increases & COLA that would equal 15% some years - maaany moons ago.

Thanks, everyone, for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I am, of course, grateful, for any increase. I needed a little perspective and your kind posts helped me to see it all a little more clearly. Another thing I'm grateful for....this wonderful community of women (primarily women, that is).

I worked as an administrator for a state facility and took an early retirement in July, 1997. (Personal reasons.) I received a small COLA one time (about 2000) and nothing since then. Nada! So, DH and I have to budget our limited income wisely. But it sure would be nice if the powers that be would think of us retired people on occasion!!! Or, is that expecting too much?
