HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I want to wish all my forum friends a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Our town is bustling with family and friends. Of course the grocery stores are jammed and shelves are empty for some canned goods. Most people shopped early.

My pumpkin pies are cooked and ready and I'll do the sweet potato casserole tonite and put in the frig. to take to DS's house tomorrow. DIL does a whole turkey which fits in her oven and I love the legs (most are br*ast people). I usually make two turkey br*asts since the dark meat got leftover. They don't have an electric knife which makes carving so easy. I purchased them one as an early Hanukkah gift and it's sitting by the door so I don't forget it.

@Shanus Electric knives making a comeback? I recall my Mother buying a Sunbeam electric knife the one with the hole in the handle as advertized. It will be perfect for turkey your carving. Enjoy your Thanksgiving! Is wine served?

Who gets the carving honors at your gathering? As I matured I have liked dark poultry meat as more flavor. So much better also for chicken soup flavor. Growing up turkey legs were very inexpensive to purchase separately. I didnt like them as a child and preferred white meat.

Our small town stores were busy with the holiday coming and a snowstorm that came in last night until noon. Today snowed in for awhile.I heard a few Associates say they had to come in to work at 5:30 A.M. on Friday.

@UpNorthGorgy Firstly, stay safe in the snow. we rarely get a snow storm, but I know those that have it frequently usually can get around if roads clear up a bit. DH is from NY and can drive in snow like a champ.

Yes, I've always carved with an electric knife. We always say whose however house is having the turkey gets the honor of carving. It's not an easy feat when a whole big one getting the legs and wings off. I agree the dark meat is more tender and less dry even if cooked properly. I always get to keep the carcus for soup. The condition is having them all over when it's cooked in a month or so. DS and DH have Friday off so I great family weekend.

@UpNorthGorgy My Mom had the other kind to GE I think , she even bough me one when I got married. Not sur where is ended up after last years fiasco of a renovation

@Shanus Thank you for the lovely wishes. I made Mary Beth's impossible pumpkin pie yesterday and my apple pie's cooling on the dining room table right now. Although I never use it anymore, I still have the electric knife that I got as a shower gift in 1975. As I recall, it did make carving turkey much easier. We're joining friends at our favorite sports pub for turkey dinner tomorrow, then going home for dessert. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
