I remember it when I was a kid but now I don't even wear much less own a coat. A hoodie is all I need and even then it's usually off by 9 am. I was in Costco and had a light sweater on yesterday and I was roasting.

@Bonkers1 If you mean the mall, then YES! When DD was young, she frequented a particular clothing store, the name escapes me, that was hotter than hades. It also had music blaring. I usually had to walk outside.

ETA: Why would the store make it so uncomfortable???

@PA Mom-mom I agree! My DD probaly went to the same store. You would think it was a nightclub with the loud music!!

I can remember being so hot and then my back would start to ache and I couldn't wait to get out of there....thank goodness for online shopping!

Coats were warmer back in the olden days and the climate colder. I remember my last car coat before I moved South; ultra heavy wool tweed, interlining and substantial quilted lining, with huge shawl collar. You can no longer find coats like that.

Growing up in the north of the Northeast, I recall dying when wearing a winter coat in school and lining up for the bus, wearing it in the malls or stores. It was gross and I was always sweaty. I am still gross and sweaty when I wear my coats, still being in the Northeast. I get cold too quickly and need to wear a coat, then I am hot (the vicious cycle, lol). I recall seeing a brand on Q, Arctic Expedition item A661553, that had the straps inside the back of the coat for you to put over your shoulders and carry it that way without having to "wear" the coat. I thought that was so smart, but I don't need another winter coat.

@VanSleepy YES!!! That was it! I called DD to check, and she immediately remembered it. She said it was warm because the people working there were wearing next to nothing. I don't remember that part.

And it was always so dark inside. GD shops there now and they've finally changed the lighting so I can see! lol

Not me. I am always cold and hate it!

It's not too often that I get overheated, even in the summertime.

Right now I am wrapped up in a throw in my family room. The temp is set to 73 degrees. It's 45 degrees outside.

I hate the winter months and am already looking forward to spring.

I am in the mid Atlantic. Before retirement I needed to leave my house by 5:30 AM. In late Fall, as the season was transistioning to colder weather, mornings standing waiting for city public transportation in freezing temperatures. So I would really bundle up. Then by afternoon coming home, sometimes temps would warm up so much that I would be sweating, carrying my coat over my arm with my gloves, hat and scarf stuffed in the coat sleeves.

I went in there with my DD when she was in college schlepping my heavy coat while she tried on clothes. Not fun!

@Wsmom - I remember years ago it was like being in a nightclub with the darkness and loud music. I wonder if they experienced a lot of theft during that period.
