AMAZON return question

I don't buy a lot from AMAZON but what I wanted had to be ordered...the item did not work out so I started the return process on Saturday, I was going to print the label on Monday and ship out.

This evening I was notified that I was issued a refund...I have not shipped it back yet...is this normal, I don't see how it can be!!

It was a $100.00 dollar item, why would the seller not wait until they knew it had been shipped, and I supposed to not return it to them?

I did go to AMAZON and try to contact the seller but could not find that information..any advice is appreciated.

No that's not normal for an expensive item. I've had two times where I was issued a refund after getting my QR code and they were both small food items approx. $3 each.

Yes, you are expected to return it to them unless the seller told you to keep it.

You don't really need to print out a label. You can return it to one of their return locations and show the QR code they sent you. They take care of sending it back.

It's just good customer service. If they don't receive the item back they'll charge you again.

That does sometimes happen, though normally if they do not want the merchandise returned you are notified during the return process. I have had that happen, once it was for a $400 air conditioner.

@Etoile308 I have to print the label, I am in a small area, there are drop offs only....the label has to be on the package.

Amazon has always told me if I need to return the item or if there is no need to return the item in the message they send. Did you read the message from Amazon it should state that there is no need to return or that you need to return the item.

@Mom2Dogs, Understandable then. I'm just so used to the convenience of going to Whole Foods, Kohl's, or UPS. I know Staples also takes them. I forget sometimes that not everyone has as many options as others.

I did have one time where I was told to keep the item and they refunded my money. It was a book of facts I bought for my 9 yo grandson. I called Amazon and confirmed with a rep that I did not have to return the book. Everything else that I have returned I was emailed a QR code and I either took it to Kohl's or UPS.

The only time that has happened to me with Amazon was for an inexpensive item - I think it may have been about $5 or $6 dollars.

It's happened to me twice on Ebay. It was for clothing items. Each time the product was defective and they gave me a refund and told me to keep the item or give it to a charity, etc. Those times the items were about $20 each.

It does occasionally happen. If they don't receive the item back within a certain period of time however, they will charge your credit card for it. I've heard of people being charged six months to a year later for items Amazon claimed they never returned.

Does it say Return Started or Return Completed. My message usually states that the refund will be completed after receipt of the item. It has 3 stages, return started, return completed, return refunded.

The book was supposed to be age appropriate (8-10 yo) providing general facts about history, science, pop culture etc but when I received it and reviewed it before giving it to him I felt it was more complicated and more appropriate for older children. There were many positive reviews but everyone is intitled to their opinion. I found another book and he really enjoyed reading it. He's a very smart little guy and tops in his class but that book was to complicated

Amazon always says why they issue refunds early. What was in their message to you?

Or maybe it's notice that they will refund it when scanned as received by the carrier.

Unless Amazon specifically says you don't have to return it, you will get charged if you don't.

@CalminHeart There was no message, just that the account had been refunded. I sent a message to the seller and did not hear anything today so I was able to do a live chat with Amazon, they told me not to return the item!!

I feel a little uncomfortable about not returning...
