DUCHESS OF KENT, RIP

Katharine, Duchess of Kent, age 92, died on September 4.

Always one of the more appealing royals to me, a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth II, and the wife of the Queen's cousin, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. Kind and dutiful, devoted to her faith, children and music.

She ultimately became a music teacher, and taught piano to students who called her "Mrs. Kent". Her colleagues called her "Kath"-- she didn't stand on ceremony.

She formally gave up her HRH title.

At one point she suffered from acute depression, and also had Epstein-Barr syndrome and celiac disease. She once commented, "None of us gets through life unscathed".

She was one of those royals who just wanted to "get on with it". Born a commoner, Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley, but raised in a centuries' old manor, Hovingham Hall, in the northern county of Yorkshire.

She is survived by her 3 living children, and by her husband.

I'll always remember her as the lady who stood at centre court at Wimbledon when the trophies were awarded. She was so conciliatory to the person who lost the final match.

Unfortunate about that first photo, it makes her look wizend and kind of mean.

She was a beautiful, modest, and gracious woman who'se husband and children loved her very much.

I read as she converted to Catholicism from the Church of England, she will be the first royal to have a Royal Catholic funeral in 300 years.

She became a Catholic in 1994 when she was received into the Catholic Church in Westiminster Abbey.

Prior to that, the last royal to convert to Catholicism was in 1654. a whopping 340 years before, when Oliver Cromwell ruled as Lord Protector because King Charles I had been executed after the British Civil War ended with the defeat of the Monarchy.

Their wedding is available online specifically YouTube videos black and white also color versions. Beautiful couple. Lovely seeing the RF attending most are no longer living. Duchess of Kent beauty shines inside out.

@SactoSue King James II was catholic. He converted in the late 1660s and was king between 1685 until 1688. He was overthrown in the glorious revolution and his protestant daughter Mary was made queen.
