I could be wrong but I thought my mother used a special type of scissors to trim a loose thread from a seam on the outside of a garment without hurting the fabric. Any ideas?

If it's NOT part of the construction of the garment, you can cut off a loose thread with an embroidery scissors...

If it IS part of the construction, I would use a fine gauge crochet hook to pull the thread back to the reverse side:

Nope---just a tiny scissor and a hook --my mom had the same things that are shown. and so do I in fact.

My mom sewed a lot, but the only different scissors I remember are pinking shears which I don't think was used in that manner, but to prevent fraying.She made a lot of our school clothes many years ago.

Thank you so much it was embroidery scissors for sure. I remember them being small.

My Mother always used pinking shears to trim threads etc. so nothing frayed.

I would find pinking shears too bulky and awkward to use for trimming threads. di
