My 12 year old great niece has morphed into a fashion girl. Suddenly she's into clothes and jewelry and hair ornaments. They came by to have lunch and my birthday cake with me. She had some of her birthday money in her bag. She wanted to buy stuff from SheIn on my debit card and she'd give me her cash. She had $26. Her mom said ok. She bought jeans, a pink oversized boyfriend sweater, pink socks and a bag of pink hair ornaments all for $27. It will all be deliver between March 28 and April 4. Most of my friends buy from SheIn and Temu occasionally but I was surprised that preteens do it to. She was so good at finding what she wanted, checking sizing and fabric content. I took her $20 bill and let her keep the $6. I was thinking this is why Forever 21 and all those other stores are closing. They can't compete in terms of price but they also can't compete in volume and variety of merchandise. There were tons of stuff to look at so there's entertainment value

Every wonder WHY things are so cheap on those sites? I know the prices make it tempting, but I would question the labor tactics in those other countries.

I've never ordered from either site, but I know many that have without any issues.

they are both huge Chinese websites. everything is fast fashion/junk and made with 'slave' labor children and horrible work enviroments and a huge strain on the enviroment.

no reason to wonder why American companies are failing when we are bombarded with chinese products.

OP, wonderful that your grand niece has a fashion sense. give her some knowledge as to why everything is so cheap. knowledge goes a long way....

do a little research....

@occasionalrain There was show televised on that subject. I also had my neighbor mentioned that the misionaries of her faith have witnessed this overseas.

I have no intention from buying from these companies any more than I would buy a "Rolex" for $10 from some guy on the street. Neither are business enterprises I will support.

But if I had to buy from one or the other, it would be the guy with the Rolex.

Junk, poor quality, problems, I know people that purchase. I won't buy from

these sites.

Sizing is sometimes off, you might not get what is pictured, clothing might not

last through several washings, much better places online to buy from.

I've had ads from SHEIN with models displaying clothes pop up occasionally between rounds in a game I play.

I'm always shaking my head at the lack of quality control in the ads. Clothing with open un-sewn seams, puckered seams, uneven hems. If that's what they show visible in the ads, imagine what you get when it arrives.

@occasionalrain she doesn't know it but American retailers push all manner of false stories in an attempt to steer for customers away from those sites. And to the merchandise they BUY from companies in China and mark up 400%. It's not working. 😂. Consumers are doing what works their own budgets and lifestyles now.

@occasionalrain it's all made in the same factories. With Temu, SheIn and now newer sites who selling directly to customers; you cut out the middle man which reduces the price.

As a small business owner....not in the fashion business. it is difficult to compete with some online companies. I buy very little on line unless I have to, I always look local first.

Shein and Temu are direct Chinese companies. No quality control or inspection by other countries. I would never buy from them.

Ever been to China to see some of their factories? I have. It's a mess.

I looked at Temu once and ended up with so much span that I blocked the website.
