We ordered something from the Q. UPS tells us the delivery date and it is not acceptable to us (we will be in and out all day. We called UPS and tried to get the delivery date changed (we have to sign for it). When we called UPS we were told if we wanted to change the date we would have to pay $11.00.!! Has this ever happedned to any of you and what did you do? Becuz' we have to sign for it there is no other way. The apppts we have on that day are critical. What should we do?

You can't just tell them to deliver on a different day. Of course they'll charge you to change the delivery--they have to find that individual package and reroute just that one.

It's been like this forever. So either pay to change the day or pick it up from their depot which I have done on the past. You may also be able to change the signature requirement so they just leave it unless it's wine or alcohol, then you can't.

If I think that I'd be receiving something at a time when I'm not at home, and no family or neighbor would be available to assist, then I don't order anything.

I wait and place the order at another time. I know when it comes to something like a TSV that I miss out on the price, but usually the increase isn't that significant.

If you have to sign for it, they can't deliver it and will have to come back, so what's the problem? Your situation ought to correct itself.

We must sign for it (alcohol). If we change the delivery date we will have to pay $11.00.

@Group 5 minus 1 Years ago if we weren't home to accept delivery, UPS would leave a slip saying they would try again. No additional charge. I wouldn't change the date myself but like a poster said, I expect they will just redeliver at another time unless this process has changed????

If a signature is required and you are not home they should re-attempt to deliver 2 more times, they will leave you a notice of the attempt and it will include a contact that you can call. Our company orders and ships thank you gifts, bottles of Silver Oak cabernet wine, a dozen+ bottles a week shipped via FedEx-we run into this often. Not UPS but should be similar regulations. FYI, we are not charged for a date change or redelivery.

@Group 5 minus 1 Yes, you have to pay if UPS has to reroute the package. Unfortunately, although frustrating, it really isn't UPS's fault that you will not be home at the time of delivery.

An option I use is the My Choice Premium. It does cost $19.99 per year but you can easily change the delivery date, which I have to do quite often. It's unlimited.

2. Make arrangements for the original date

3. Order it from Amazon?

I use that option all the time. Well worth the $20. Even if I'm going to be home it gets to the UPS store much earlier than sitting around waiting for it to deliver to my house and no worries about porch pirates.

If you aren't home they just re-deliver the next day. Is that a problem for you @Group 5 minus 1 . They usually leave a little note that they tried to deliver and will make 2 more attempts. They don't charge for that (or haven't in the past ).

This happens at our business at times...we have gone to lunch, closed early...UPS just leaves a sticky note on the door and will attempt delivery the next business day.

Where I am confused is if we call ahead and tell them not to deliver and reschedule then why should we be charged.?

@Group 5 minus 1 Is $11 really so much for a delivery of alcohol? And yes I know this is extra but if you want it, you don't have a choice. End of story.

@Group 5 minus 1 Why does it matter? If you are curious why don't you go to their website and look for their rules and see. Could be that they think you want to delay several days or a week, etc. instead of being home the next day. Or you could call and ask them about the charge and get first hand information.

If you're not home and signature is required, they will leave post it note indicating they'll try again next day.

There are times I've had alcohol delivered and wasn't asked for a signature. The UPS guy just signed for us and dropped it off. He knows there is no one under 21 living here.
