QUEEN OR KING?

....A big decision to make. When we first got married we slept in a queen sized brass bed (an antique). We still have it as a guest bed upstairs as we moved on to a king size bed to make room for dogs and grand babies.

Now we need to decide to take the brass bed to our new place. Yes, we're not big people, but used to spreading out. I hate to try to sell it and never get a good price for the brass bed. I also see that primary bedrooms would be cramped with our king sized bed and add night tables.

What size bed do you sleep in?

Ideally a king bed for two people if there is enough space for it.

We slept in a queen bed for years...until we slept in a king bed in a hotel! That was it...we bought a king size. We both like our space when we sleep--not "cuddlers" at all, lol.

When visiting friends & family, we sleep in queen-size beds and feel so cramped! If we ever have to move, as long as the king size will fit with a narrow path to get in/out of it, that's what we'll have. I would hang a shelf on the wall to hold a lamp if a regular nightstand wouldn't fit.

We prefer a queen size.

We started married life with a full, moved up to a queen, then got a king and now we're back to a queen size.

The king size was nice, but the bed linens never seemed to fit right. The sheets and blankets worked, but comforters, quilts and spreads were never long enough.

Pillows and shams for a king are a PIA. Sometimes only standard size shams are available....way too much bother for me.

I won't give up my King Size bed. We want to be as comfortable as possible.

We sleep in a Queen when we visit family and can't wait to get back to our King.....and we are are not a large size couple.

@Shanus I LOVE our Queen bed. We get a King when we're on vacation, but for home, I don't want to be that far away from my husband! My husband is 6'5" and the King and Queen are the same length, unless you get a CalKing... which is enormous.

Queen is certainly big enough, IMO.

@Shanus Both the queen and king bed sizes have their advantages. The queen takes up less space, and bedding is easier (and less expensive) to buy. But for us, it has to be a king size bed. My husband is tall and likes his leg space, as do I. We went on vacation a few years back and stayed in a lovely bed-and-breakfast. The only size bed available was a queen size bed. Let me just say, sleeping was uncomfortable and cramped.

DH and I are not large people but we have always slept in a king size bed. Would not feel comfortable in anything smaller. In fact, in the apartment we're renting in NYC we had a choice of a queen with more furniture or a king that would only fit a dresser and 1 nightstand. Easy decision, chose the latter!!

Started out with queen size, upgraded to king about 25 years ago. DH died 5 yrs. ago and I find the king too big now. It's exhausting to change sheets, blankets, comforter, etc. and I only sleep on half of it.

Am thinking of downsizing back to a queen size.

I read your post and my brain snagged on the comment of " get a good price..."

After selling our mountain place two or three years ago and dealing with DH's initial releuctancd to part with certain items and their price value and then talking with friends over coffees about the value of saving expensive clothing wardrobes and furniture for offspring, all I can say is:

Do you have the room to save and use this brass bed ?

Will your guests be comfortable in the queen size bed ?

If you keep it, will your kids keep it or be burdened with
selling, good price or good riddance ?

Trends change...it may take years for something to ⭐️

My friends all thought their kids would love their
saved treasures even though the opposite was
obvious from descriptions / pictures shared.

It is hard to let go. After 50+ years, I finally donated my wedding dress to a non-profit providing wedding attire to needy but thrifty brides. A dress takes up relatively little space compared to a bed; however, the personal meaning and value may be similar.

From your posts, you have been dealing mentally and physically with this major move for quite a while. You must be tired of making decision after decision and even redeciding the same issue: in the universe, what is really important. Again, another decision, I know.

As I have been up to my ears for only two weeks with filling bins for moving to a new condo and remembering the overwhelming decisions with the sale of the mountain place, I am amazed at how simpler " keep / donate " decisions have become. The " donate " ones make me smile now: someone just starting out or changing paths may fall in love with an item but be unable to buy it new.

I get the space and they get something important to them: Win-Win.

Queen for me.

A king size is too much for me to handle when it comes to rotating the mattress and the topper plus the sheets/blankets are also too much to handle with laundry and storage.

We downsized to a Queen mattress from a King that we had for decades. Don’t miss the larger area from the king at all. More space to put 2 nightstands and walk around the bedroom. We don’t move around that much while sleeping. The smaller size is not a problem.

King all the way. Anything else is just to claustrophobic. In fact when we stay at a hotel we would rather have two queen beds vs one queen just for the room. We aren't big people but we need to make room for the kitties. We have a king bed, nightstand, tall dresser and regular dresser in the bedroom and there's plenty of room.

Dh and I sleep on a queen size bed. I don't think our room is large enough to accommodate a king size bed and have adequate space for moving around the room.

Only had a kings size when we rented a condo for a week and I prefer making bed for a queen size.

I think a king size bed is a better choice to share with kids and pets.

Queen. But years ago my husband decided to sleep in another room.

He snored.

I liked to watch TV in bed and stay up later than he.

So we are both well rested now, both with a queen size bed to ourselves.

BUT, if we still slept in the same bed, I would have moved to a King size bed. I would not say we are "big" people either, but I need space to spread out. I don't want anyone breathing on me or touching me when I am trying to fall asleep. Plus, there is the dog ........ LOL.

We have a Queen, but want to upgrade to a King. Whenever we travel, we get a king sized bed and just love the extra space......Someday we will upgrade!!!!
