I purchased a ring from the last vault discovery show. It was beautiful with small diamonds ( don't have any diamonds) and I absolutely

loved it. However I realized I was impulsive and could not afford it and sent it back. QVC refunded my money and 2 weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying the ring box was empty!!!

I had insured it for $1000.00 dollars and the post office could not see insurance attached to my tracking #. I had the receipt for the insurance so I filed an appeal after so much time on the phone with the post office. Evidently there is a lot of theft through the post office. They probably sent the package clear through so it couldn't be tracked to the post office it disappeared from.
I thought the package that it came in and was sent back in was lacking, as it was a padded envelope that u can feel a small box in that screams jewlrey. Should have put it in a box. I am 100% sure that the ring was in the box and I taped it closed with strapping tape and sent it back priority mail. The worse part is both QVC and the Post Office make me feel like a thief or a scammer. Thanks for reading, this whole thing has caused me a lot of tears and sadness.

@Rose429, I hope this gets resolved for you. Unfortunately this isn't the first story posted here about something like this.

Another option would be to contact your credit card company if you don't get a refund.

@Rose429 I had a similar thing happen years ago with an expensive watch I bought from QVC. I was fortunate that the Post Office noticed the padded envelope was tampered with before they delivered it and i didn't have to pay for it. The box was empty of the watch and resealed. I had to take a pic of the envelope and watch and include a report from the Post Office. I know how you feel.

I would not purchase any jewelry from a place that states "jewelry" on the return address. QVC should know better

@rms1954 QVC refunded the money before they opened the package. They have since recharged me.

@rms1954 The package was empty when my mailman delivered it but made a report that it was tampered with before I received the empty envelope. The post office told me they often have private contractors transporting mail to Post Office locations. i;m not blaming anyone, all I know is the package was empty when it was given to me.

@Rose429 I would dispute the charge on my credit card. It could take a long time to get your money back if you wait for the PO or QVC. I don't think you will get a refund from QVC because they received an empty ring box..Just keep following up.

I have been buying expensive jewelry from QVC for decades, and I occasionally return a very valuable item because it does not suit my standards or my taste. I have never had a jewelry item inside a package go "missing" from my end.

I am not clear why you "purchased" insurance--when you use the QVC return label insurance is always included, which is why it is worth the trivial cost, expecially for expensive items. QVC then has the responsibility to track the item with their label. USPS gives all their items to a QVC shipping agent, so it takes a little longer.

Yes, those brown paper packages are not that great, but I always cover them and seal them every which way with USPS clear packing tape, one of the best and most secure tapes I have ever used. I do not make it easy for anyone to open and reseal, nor for the package to potentially get caught in a machine and rip open, which does happen!!

No, QVC packages NEVER say there is jewelry inside. They ship lots of things in those brown paper plastic lined mail envelopes.

When you receive a receipt from the post office, insurance is always a separate line item at a separate cost, and you would know that you paid for it and see the cost. Included priority mail insurance is for only $100.00, not enough for jewelry. However, priority mail is not always the fastest nor the best choice for expensive items.

It is my understanding that cameras operate in all the postal rooms so it is very difficult for employees to steal items that are being processed, although theft has been known to occur. Did your return package from QVC show any evidence of tampering or damage? I just received a small jewelry piece from Bloomies and the box said do not accept it if there is any evidence of damage or tampering with the tape/box (special Bloomingdales tape.).

I will advise that if you are returning something very valuable and paying from your pocket for insurance, you should go to UPS or Fed Ex and send it overnight. Yes, it is more expensive, but there is 100% more security and speed.

Finally, just in case, conduct a search of your home and the area where you packaged up the ring. Perhaps it really did fall out. Usually QVC jewelry comes inside a little plastic bag inside a felt pouch inside a box.

@FancyPhillyshopper There is another topic called Jewelry Return Stolen under Customer Care. The poster and other customers have experienced the same problem. So, it appears this is not one and done. Very suspicious that this happened with others with an empty ring box..It needs to be investigated. I believe this poster and she did what was necessary to return the ring. @Rose429

@FancyPhillyshopper @My daughter was here and watched me put the ring in the plastic bag, the green bag and the box. She watched me tape it securely with strapping tape. We went to my local Pak and Mail and sent it back. Yes the ring was in the box. I insured it because my friend that runs the pak n mail suggested it. He gets complaints from missing Post Office packages the most. I have never insured anything before, but this $1300.00 ring was the most expensive item I have ever purchased.
I am not disparaging the Post Office. They can have purses and bags on the floor when they r working per my local PO. Only takes a few bad ones.

Yes, There is theft in the post office...we have had several checks stolen from our business that were enroute to be paid....thank goodness we had stopped payment.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told a long time ago by USPS that once the insured item is delivered, the insurance expires or something to that effect.

I am surprised that Q doesn't have a different protocol for returning such a high priced jewelry. They need to change this. For example, a customer should bring the said item in an UNPACKAGED box to an authorized agent. Once the item has been accepted by the authorized agent, the customer is no longer responsible.

Without chain of custody, the theft could've been anywhere en route.

I feel badly for the OP.

Why blame the post office? The person opening the return at QVC could have just as easily put the ring in their pocket and marked it empty.

The post office handles millions of packages a day, running down conveyor belts, getting dumped into cargo bins, loaded onto trucks, etc.

Constantly moving quickly to get the mail out. Scan and onto the next stop.

Doubt they have the time to stop and start opening people's packages, steal stuff, repackage the empty box and send it on its way.

But the QVC worker whose job it is to actually open a package? Oh look, a nice ring, thank you so much sucker, in the pocket, mark it empty. Next.

There's your culprit in my opinion.

Makes sense @MezzieStarr . I agree that it could be someone at the Q return department.
