another bomb cyclone---mini version--

I am near Seattle---and last month, nearly to the day--that huge bomb cyclone blew thru causing major damage and power outages that lasted over a week for many. I live in an apt in my downtown city--lost power for for a couple days and had to empty my refer/freezer of most the food---that was just before t-day--and just bought groceries that a.m. That is when I decided to buy an ECOflow power station that will power most my appliances -IF---this happens again---well it happened again last night--not quite as intense or long in duration--but power went out---DD and I had gone yesterday a.m. to finish our meal shopping for the next few days--just bought beautiful king crab claws for our surf and turf dinner---already had scallops, shrimp and halbut in the freezer plus beautiful steaks---OMG--I almost cried after I stomped around and cursed the cyclone bomb gods-----then I remembered that power station...and the angels sang!!!! Hooked that baby up and saved the day. Power came back on about 3 hours later too. Have been wondering if my decision to buy that thing was the right one----was several $100 ---and YES----it was a good decision. It is fully charged now--for the next time!!!

It is fortunate to have such and item just for the chance that something will happen.

We have two power stations. Right after we purchased the first one --middle of February and it was sleeting and icy out and snow on the ground. The power lines went down because of the weight of the ice. Took sometime to get power back. But we were fine. We did not have to throw food out like the previous time power had gone out.

It is not if but when.

It is always worth it to get something.

My husband is the one who did all the research for what we ended up purchasing.

It is from Oukitel. He was going to purchase from QVC but the one he wanted was sold out by the time he was able to get tto order it. So he looked into a number of different kinds.

The first one is able to give power for the fridge and the land line and the computers. The second one is for the the stand alone freezer and a few other items.

When we used the first we also had the tv and the modum going as well.

We also have two Halos that we purchased from QVC and they have saved us a few times as well.

The second one we purchased solar panals .

We went to a local hardware store and also purchased a cart--these things are HEAVY.

There is also a need for a special type of extension cord that we bought from a hardware store as well. All this was extra cost.

One time we were out of power for 3 days prior and no matter how much ice you buy from the store it does not keep things frozen and we had to throw out a good amount of food.

@msgb --the one I bought-- from AMZ --was the ECOflow Delta 2 .Found it just before black Friday--was $1300-- and it was half off--- but I decided on getting the solar panels with it so around $700--also had a $60 coupon off. I can power my big appliances, lights, phones at least, then use the solar panels to charge the thing up itself . I tossed out prob $300 or more of food --I won't do that again!! It runs very quiet and no fumes. Can take with you--camping, tailgating and such.

Holy moly--got ANOTHER atmospheric river and high winds situation starting just about now ---for a few hours--they say!!~ but it is during the daytime instead of night---got TONS of snow in our mountains and almost 1 " of rain since last night with more on the way--a real sogfest out there-----good grief!!!

We already lost power this morning. It was out for only 6 minutes, but enough to mess up the timers and turn off the coffee maker.

I've got the candles, lanterns and power bank out and ready if it goes out again.

@juanitalinda ---you can use solar panels anytime, anywhere even though there is no visible sunlight. Even here in Wa!! Made sure of that --otherwise I would have to find an electric power source to charge up the power bank when it ran down---

Have you tried charging the power station with the solar panels in winter? Depending on your location, it might be hard to get enough sunlight on the panels to charge when the sun is so low on the horizon and it's cloudy and rainy.

Of course, in North Bend we didn't have any sunshine today. Just torrential rain.

Actually with the wind blowing all the rain around, the windows looked like the antique wavy glass. Absolutely magical with the colored Chrismas lights in the background.

PS .... I plan on charging mine from my car if I need to ... or else go to the son's house and charge off his generator.

I have solar panels on the house, but they don't work during a power outage. Go figure.

@juanitalinda --No, haven't tried the solar panels-- I just got this power station a few weeks ago---I charged it up ASAP and it is living under my table ---I don't have a car anymore so that is not an option ----where I live, I get any sun out there directly on my balcony----no wind here yesterday-- sheeting rain--yes --but also got sunshine too. Hope to never have to use those panels but you never know!!

@monicakm --am a bit confused--what I have would not run a heat pump---wouldn't that have to be a generator type thing that is part of a heat pump system that kicks on whenever the heat pump goes out? With my machine--it will run fans or heat , or even a portable AC unit as well as appliances and such---but not a whole house system.
