Auto Insurance

We are in the process of getting our auto insurance changed to here in Ohio after our move. Hubby went to an insurance agent and there are a lot of insurance companies that are not insuring people over the age of 75. So our choice of companies is limited.

Just letting everyone know in case you are contemplating a move or know someone that is and over 75.

Wow, that's a new one.
I doubt if that would be allowed here in Arizona with all of the old people living here.

I used to work in the insurance industry and there was always the Assigned Risk for drivers with tickets and accidents, young drivers.

I'm surprised they haven't done that with the older seniors.

State Farm will insure Seniors but charge them more!

They are an "additional" risk, so they say!

@Zhills even though I am a senior, I do have to agree, sometimes we/they are more of a risk.

Well, working in the Eye care field for decades, I can believe this. There were many seniors that came into our office who legally, because of their vision, shouldn't have driving but were anyway. Insurance companies have done this for as long as I can remmeber for young male drivers, so I am not surprised.

@Imaoldhippie. There's all kinds of discrimination but much, like this, is not illegal.

@KittySoftPaws. In New Mexico, seniors have to have a yearly eye exam to renew their driver's licenses. It's quite an inconvenience.

When my rates for auto went up $400 for NO reason, my agent said that many insurance companies are refusing to cover NYS. They are choosing which states they will do business in....thus limiting our choices as well.

Regulations too high, too many claims.....they don't want to deal w/ NY.

I wish I didn't have to deal w/ NY either! LOL

That's surprising. But honestly, I see too many older drivers who can't hear or can barely stand up straight getting behind the wheel.

My next door neighbor is a prime example.

Yikes, that's kind of scary... another reason I stick with my State Farm since 1988 and through the same agency (which my kids say I shouldn't do). Yes, it's getting more expensive but I can't put a price on my peace of mind.

We're hearing horror stories about the increase for RV insurance, we're good until June . . . but we're already looking. Most of our friends have seen a 35+% increase.

I'm old and went through AARP to get Hartford coverage for my car and home.

Hartford has an app for the phone that tracks your driving and (while I hate it), it has reduced my auto premiums a lot.

AARP offers an online driving refresher course that will also reduce premiums at Hartford.

An eye exam every year is something all of us seniors shoud do. Catch any changes in your eyes early. Wish they did that every where. I always get my eyes checked once a year. No big deal.
