The Fires

I live west of the fires here in Ventura County, CA. Lots of homes destroyed along with the lovely vegetation. As the winds have calmed down, may some containment can be reached. Over 19,000 acres burned.

Saturday the winds are predicted to start up again. I feel for the people without homes - no place to celebrate the holidays.

@Puzzle Piece , my area experienced uncontrolled fires last year and 200 homes were lost. My heart goes out to those directly affected. It is a devastating experience in a time when alternate living arrangements and reconstruction is a challenge.

We were not directly affectly affected but had our go bag packed.

Very sad to see the mass devastation this out of control fire has caused up in Ventura County, thoughts and prayers go out to these people who have lost their homes.

We live just north in Santa Barbara County. We had a small fire pop up yesterday afternoon and it was heading right for our subdivision. We were evacuated but thankfully just for a few hours. The EMS personnel were on it with heavy equipment immediately and we are so thankful for them.

Such a horribly devastating loss down in Ventura County. Please stay safe.

I'm on the Atlantic City Expressway right now and I can smell and see smoke from a wildfire somewhere. Smells like burning pine needles. Tried to pull up a wildfire map and it took me directly to West Coast fires. Omgosh so many in CA, OR and WA.

@PuzzlePiece - We live in Ventura County east of the fires. It is so devastating and sad for all who have lost homes, etc. We are kind of concerned about the winds changing direction and the on shore flow as they call it. It may bring the smoke/ash our way. Due to the high winds on Wednesday, we lost power for about 5 hours. I was so happy when it came back on. I signed up for the PSPS power alerts so I got an email on Tuesday that we were probably going to lose power on Wednesday. I'm glad it didn't last longer but you never know, it depends on how long the high winds last. We were in the 50-60 mph range starting about 4 a.m. and lasting until late in the afternoon. Not much you can do to prepare ahead. How did you do?
