Another Sunday

It is 90

. degrees in my neck of the woods and what am I doing?I'm making chocolate chip cookies.I will share these with co workers and my parents.I keep all my drapes closed when it gets hot outside,fans going and of course my ac on.My friends wonder how I tolerate it dark inside,but my defense,my house stays comfortable and the ac doesn't have to run as much.

@Luvsmyfam. It kind of defeats the purpose of closing the drapes if you then turn on the oven for long periods. Save cookies making for fall.

@Luvsmyfam I also keep my blinds and curtains closed when it's hot outside. It does keep it comfortable with the fans going and your right the AC doesn't kick on as much. Enjoy your cookies.

I live in the South, we're in the high 90's. When I look out the window at night, it's still so hot and the humidity is so high you can barely see anything. When I moved into this house, I bought drapes that help decrease the impact of the ot sun and heat. I also got roman shades for my kitchen windows ( 7 windows and 2 doors) and it has helped with lowering the temp in the house. I also have ceiling fans in just about every room accept kitchen and master bedroom. My Mom always get her house "dark" in the summer and I guess I learned it from her.

When I use my oven in the summer it doesn't make the house hot. Enjoy your yummy cookies! I bet your house smells awesome!

Enjoy your cookies🍪. I bake all the time in the summer and the oven doesn't heat up my house.

I keep my a/c at 75 it's cool & comfortable.

@Kachina624 Having drapes and blinds closed plus turning on the oven for a short time is very well worth it to make parents and coworkers happy.Most Important,this makes me happy and that's what counts !

It's a lovely (NOT!) 108 in the Phoenix area at 1 o'clock going to 115. I'll take 90 any day.

@Kachina624 Sorry I wouldn't put off baking until a different season LOL. I always baked in any weather. I never found my stove added all that much heat.

@Love my grandkids. I never bake in the summer, especially cookies which require the oven be on for an hour or more. I only use my Breville oven briefly. Of course it's very hot here so we learn to conserve our cool air, about 97° today. Using an oven definitely makes AC work harder.

My oven is off until October. I live in an apartment, and even with two AC's you can probably imagine what having the oven on would do to the temperature. I do use the oven feature in the toaster oven for short periods in the summer.

My mother always used to keep the house dark in the summer when I was a kid. We had no AC then and it did help. That and the awnings that my poor father had to put up on each window in the spring and take down in the fall.

I only bake and cook when necessary during this hot weather. I do make double portions of meatloaf, sauces, soups that I just heat in the microwave. Most of these hot, humid nights, we're just not in the mood for a "meal". We may may do burgers or chicken on the grill, but most of the time, it's salads or veggie omelets.

My Sunday was very busy for me--not sure why but the cleaning bug bit me hard---and I went crazy---my big job was cleaning my Ninja outdoor grill--finally--geez what a mess. Mostly the rolling stand I put it on. Was a greasy mess. Today will de- grease the machine itself---and then cleaned out my cats kennel, cleaned my shower/bathtub, cleared and clean my tiny balcony and even bleached/scrubbed my white Clarks flip flops---man----was a cleaning fool!!

@Luvsmyfam I have baked cookies, and cakes, and brownies, etc. in 90 degree weather without an air conditioner, but with the windows and doors open.

This is how people bake in other countries.

Not everyone has an air conditioner or cooler weather in a different season.
