Written scripts those days are gone

Remember those days when you would get a written script or it would be received over the phone by the pharmacist? Just talking to a pharmacist and our friend said it is all done by computers now.

I used to insist on a written script because I shopped around for the best price...the doctors office will do it if you insist...at least that is my experiene.

I'm glad I don't have to take paper scripts to the pharmacy. It saves me a trip, time, and gas.

It also saves your doctor and her/his medical staff time updating your records.

It also keeps unscrupulous people from writing fraudulent prescriptions. I also like it because it saves me time.

My prescription is usually ready when I arrive at the Pharmacy. Those Doctor signatures were a nightmare I am sure. It allows for other health professionals to put in the order as well saving time for the Doctors.

It also avoids mistakes. Sometimes the doctor's handwriting left a lot to be desired and couldn't be read. Someone had to call to find out what was prescribed,or a guess may or may not have been correct.

E prescribing was part of the Medicare Modernization Act from the early 2000s. I've worked in medical billing since 1995 but I don't remember more than this for E prescribing. I was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and had our son in 2001. So my thoughts were elsewhere.

My PCP will still give me a written script if I ask her for one.

And since I don't buy my contacts where I have my eye examination, my optometrist gives me written scripts.

I like getting texts when the script is ready. So much better than trying to call the pharmacy and being on hold forever.

I just had knee replacement Monday. All my drugs including oxycodone (which is an opioid) were sent electronically. I had my drugs three days before surgery. So much better than having to go to the doctors office, and then go to the pharmacy with paper in hand and sit and wait.

I love my prescriptions electronically transferred to Costco, and their text messaging when they are ready.

We don't like it because you aren't able to research the drug and it's filled before you know how much it's going to cost.

My husband was prescribed brand name Farxiga to the tune of almost $600 for a 30 day supply. He had to call the pharmacy tell them he didn't want it and then call the doctor to have a new prescription written for the generic which was less than half the cost.

About a year ago, I left my long-time PCP because he refused to use eprescriptions or even call in my scripts to the pharmacy. He would only write them. At the same time, the office team didn't support him due to the agreement he had with the owners of the practice. Hence he also didn't update patient records. It was a huge PITA. I'm still dealing with his record keeping issues.

He considered himself a "conciege doctor" but conciege implys service and he wasn't great at it.

I am so thankful those days are gone. Of course we often still have to appear in person at the office, but after that it is so simple.

I recall at times we had to once again drive to the pharmacy when the order was ready. Not even any drive through.

I've never called a prescription a 'script'.

My Dentist office gives a written prescription as I recently had an implant done and I needed to take a couple meds for it. I was hurting and had to go to the pharmacy and wait for it. It made me realize what a hassle it is and how nice it is having it sent electronically and ready when you get there.

Until I started on here, I'd never heard anyone call a presciption a "script".

I'd always know scripts to be the dialogue for television, film and plays.

Our pharmacist friend said it is "scripts". Googled it and "scrip" refers to money of some sort.

I am also a medical person and we have always refered to it as scripts. What does the docs office call them when you ask for a refill?
