Top-of-the-line faucets can run you upwards towards $800 or more just for the parts. You'll need to look for one in your price range. Pricing is all over the place.

I like Delta.

I've always had Delta faucets in the kitchen. Also Moen and Koeher are good names.

Personally, I would never buy any appliances, etc. from a big box store. I don't know if you want to purchase solely from an on-line store but with an independent brick and motar retail store I think you get better service and sometimes better products. If you can't remember the web name your plumber told you, just look for any independent retail store that sells plumbing and heating supplies or supplies plumbers. A lot of places that sell to the trade will also sell to the public.

@Mom2Dogs OH! I feel your pain. We went through the same problem about a year ago.

Went to Lowe's. And looked at the large display of kitchen faucets. Was shocked that a number of faucets on display looked broken. Did not want to buy any of them. A clerk came up to us, and asked if we needed help. We said that we had a Delta leaky faucet.

He said that the faucet we had was made better than anything on display. He recommended that we buy a replacement kit. The kit was a washer and ball that fit in the handle of the faucet Lowe's had a "universal" replacement kit that we bought.

Installed it and it still leaked.

Went to Home Depot and they had a Delta replacement kit, made by Delta. It worked great.

Forgot what brand the Lowe's clerk told us to steer clear. It had to do with pulling down of the faucet head. One company has a magnet and the hand held part goes nicely back into place. Another company doesn't have that feature and with wear causes problems going back into the faucet.

Delta is good, they also offer factory refurbished on their site. They should offer a sale on Memorial Day weekend.

KOHLER is great but has become very high end. I'm currently liking Kingston Brass. Deck mount, flush mount, centerset, high arc, number of holes, etc.

HD and Lowe's offer mostly made for them low end supplies. You don't need a plumber, a handyman will do.

When we were updating our bathrooms the contractor told us to buy faucets, lighting etc. from build.com. As @ciao_bella explained, the Delta faucets and other name brands sold at Home Depot and Lowe's are lightweight, made with plastic parts.

Faucets from plumbing supply stores and those we purchased from build.com are made with steel parts, very weighty. It's strange to see the same brand name and style but two very different products in quality. Who knew?

We have used build.com for a variety of updates and have been very pleased.

You can't beat Delta for the price and quality. They last.

Just a little help I learned from a plumber. Don't ever keep slamming your handles hard meaning opening and closing them.

It wears them out awful.

Be gentle and close slowly and they will last alot longer.

Putting in the new replacement kit was the most "handy" thing he ever did.

But we had just had our shower faucets replaced. The plumber charged $$$$$. So my husband, rather than look at another large plumber bill decided to try it himself. It took awhile but with the directions, in the package we got it to work.

Geez....I think the plumber is more expensive than any type of house work.

Best IMO to find gppd a handyman in your area. They know as much and not that expensive. I'm positive of this.

@Mom2Dogs Before you buy a new faucet, research replacement cartridge for the unit. We have Delta that is 12+ years old and have replaced the cartridge twice. I found a YouTube video that showed how to. It is not difficult and much less expensive than a new quality faucet. I was able to purchase the specific cartridge at my local hardware store.

Years ago, someone told me the same re big box vs. local hardware stores He said when purchasing tools, always buy from local stores, not big box stores. Big difference in quality.
