I live in Central New York where we have a county leash law, but it's not really enforced. My next-door-neighbors of 30+ years have had dogs since they moved in. We each have a large yard, little over an acre. In our neighborhood, some neighbors are meticulous with their lawns, some aren't. We are. We have a mini poodle that

stays indoors and we walk her at the park or on the leash at night carrying our poop bags. Our neighbor, who we've gotten along with forever, their college grad daughter is back home (2 years now) with a labrador who poops massive piles in our lawn daily. My husband has asked the dad and daughter several times to please keep their door on their property as the dog now thinks our yard is the place to go. It's gotten so bad, we've shoveled 10 huge loads of poop just in two days. It's gotten into a heated argument now where the dad says, "It's not my dog. Talk to my daughter." And the daughter says, "There's nothing I cna do about it. We have her perimeter collar on, but it doesn't help."

Yesterday there was a heated exchange between my husband and the father. We are no longer friends. What can we do about it? They now just hang the phone up on my husband when he calls... (We hvae grandchildren who play ball in our back yard that have gotten into the mess several times...)

@SAM55

I'd pick up the rancid feces in a bucket and deposit it on thier lawn.

I have the same issue with my neighbor in rural PA.Thier lab makes piles all over my lawn, and the neighbor just laughs it off.

So I pile it near his firewood pile.Of course he just works around the fragrant pyramid, because he is a DOLT.

Inconsideration is the norm today.

This neighbor also allows his cats to breed, and does not feed them. They are feral. I feed them because I feel bad for them, and I can't stand to see animals suffer because the owner is a selfish dolt.

His property is a god awful mess, and since there are no town rules about it, he can keep his 400 lawn mowers, 13 vehicles, a fifth wheel that hasn't moved in five years etc on his place. We other neighbors can't do a thing about it.

It's the ONLY dump on our road, and of course it has to be beside my home ( and the neighbor on the other side, who is also neat and furious about this). I'm lucky trees block most of the view from my home, but my one neighbor's kitchen looks right out at the mess....

And to be clear, I don't blame the dog. She's doing what dogs do.

Some day she will get hit in the road.

My neighbor will probably just shrug and laugh it off.

Unfortunately there IS another more permanent solution.

Report him to the town so it's on record, and when they don't or won't act, and it's a shame their mutt attacked your dog....but you did what you had to do.

You know what I mean.

If not that is probably the only way to solve your problem. Even if you just put a fence between their side and yours.
if there are town laws the town will probably just fine them and they might not care about the fine.

Or track it into thier home or garage.

Take pictures too. Of the dog on your lawn AND the feces piles, with your home in the picture for reference.

Just in case it goes to court. If there IS a leash law, they won't have a leg to stand on.

And if it DOES go to court, bring a bag of feces with you so the judge can decide if he wants that on HIS front lawn.

If he says he doesn't mind, leave it with his clerk on the way out.

😮WOW! That is CRAZY! I am SO sorry you are having to endure INCONSIDERATE neighbors like these, especially since you once got along!❤ Are you able to put up a privacy fence? Do you have a homeowners association to voice a complaint with? Perhaps a courtesy call to them from the neighborhood police might be of some benefit!🤔 This is a tough one!! I really HOPE you are able to find a solution soon, as I can understand how distressing something like this is!!!🤞🤞😐

~~~All we need is LOVE💖
Unfortunately, no, we have no fence. We considered it years ago when they moved in, because they've always had at least three dogs that run loose. We have a tree line (spruces, the dogs are able to get through) on each side of our property, but I'm willing to bet if we went through the expense of a fence, the dogs would just poop in our front lawn. This is a nightmare. The last thing I want is to have neighbor issues. But they just don't care. The dad says, "NOT MY PROBLEM! NOT MY DOG!" My husband says, "It lives in YOUR house!" On a side note, the daughter has just gotten a job as a police officer in our town!
(no pun intended).
Or, get that bucket, a shovel or a .22.
Any of those will work.
A camera is helpful too.
As are complaints in writing to the local authority. A dog bit ethat maims or kills a child will bankrupt the small town if it's evident they ignored complaints and someone gets hurt. They should act to avoid that.
You should not have to incur costs of a fence to remedy what the town has rules on the books to address. YOU pay taxes to the town do you not?
Don't personally engage the neighbor. You asked politely, then more forcefully, now it's time to do it legally.
Good luck.
So sorry you are going through this. We have a neighbor on our street who also refuses to pick up their dog's deposits. Max has pooped in everyone's yard. One neighbor in particular has REPEATEDLY asked them, politely, to pick up after their dog. She has picked it up and put it in their driveway. She has put up signs. She even gave them some poop bags. Yet the problem continues. I don't understand how some people can be so rude as to ignore such reasonable requests from your neighbors.
Your situation has gotten very bad if you are yelling at each other and no longer friends. At the very least, I would pick it up and put it right in their way - in front of their garage doors so they drive over it, or by an entryway where they have to step around it.
You may have to call some city employees to complain.
What if you got the dog and kept it for a few hours, making them think he ran away? Maybe that would get their attention.
Unfortunately the dog thinks your yard is the place to go because he's been conditioned to think that.
I agree with contacting code enforcement or what ever term your community uses. See what your local ordinances entail. And try to film the trespassing behavior. Do you have an outside camera that would cover the area?
There are commercial dog repellents, some have mixed feelings about these. Possibly try a home mixture.
Actually there are a lot of solutions that may SEEM like the right get-even approach, but maybe the best thing is to contact a real attorney.
Most will discuss the issue for free or a nominal charge to see if you have a case, and explain your options.
This can rapidly escalate if the articles online about people losing thier minds over dog feces is any indication.
And beleive me....it's easy to understand how that can happen ( having to put up with other's selfish de facto behavior with their pets.)
Contact your Animal Control officer (usually under the police department) . Take pictures of the dog on your property. Go through the proper channels first. Than if the dog still goes on your lawn, I would do as a previous poster suggested. Bring the dog to the pound. Let the neighbors know where the dog is. Do it each time the dog comes on your property. The neighbors will have to pay to get the dog out. Let them know you will continue to do this. Hopefully, costing them money will stop their irresponsible behavior.
The OP should take a few pictures or videos of the dog in action and go to Code Enforcement.
Code Enforcement in my area is always on the ball.
@goldensrbest
WHere I live yes there is a shelter....they are a kill shelter.
For me, that disturbs me more than feeding the ferals who I've become attached to...
My neighbor is a selfish dolt. He would put up with dog dirt in his living room if he had to.,,,because he's one of those people who thinks he's entitled just because.
I have to keep saying the dog is just being a dog.
But...there's a limit. And yes, in the case of the dog feces, the shelter probably will euthanize the dog if it's not picked up due to a fee to get her out.
She's an otherwise nice dog, and what I really don't get is allowing an animal you allegedly "love" to roam freely.
I live on a state road with constant traffic. It's only a matter of time.
Unfortunately, she'll be replaced by sunset, because this dolt "loves dogs".
