Looking for suggestions for a great gift to give to my co-worker who will be retiring in June. She has become a friend to me and looking for some great ideas on what to get. Thank you.

@joann1218 , I would ask what she likes. If she is a reader, an Amazon gift card would be great for regular or ebooks. What are her hobbies ? Does she do crafts, knitting, crocheting, etc. Whatever she loves, she will have time to devote to it. I know some people hate gift cards, but really if you don't have a specific gift in mind, I think a gift card is perfect. Oh, and if you live in or near a city museum membership would be nice , if that is of interest to her.

Some people have charities that they particularly like to support. You could always make a donation in their name. Asking others if they want to join you in that (pooling together for a larger amount of money) is always a nice thing to do, too.

I agree with the other posters. Find out something she's into or where she likes to eat and get a gift card.

Somehting else that always makes a nice gift is a small, meaningful piece of jewelry like the stretch bracelet or my Saint pieces the Q sells.💝🌸

What are her hobbies? Does she read a lot? Does she garden? Walk? Exercise? Belong to certain social or political groups? Travel?

Consider a gift card to her favorite coffee shop, book store, garden store, hobby store if she's into that, etc.

Does she want to travel to see kids/grandkids? If she would drive, get her a gift card for gas.

My experience....don't get her company merchandise.

And I would NOT give her anything alive, that she has to take care of!

Watering, fertilizing, bug/disease control, etc. is not what you want to do when you first retire.

It's all about catching up on all that sleep you missed!

Go with a giftcard or take her out. Do not give her a physical gift. As someone who will retire at the end of the year, I am getting rid of things. I don't need any more stuff.

I've given restaurant gift cards for places I know that person liked to go and also a VISA gift card.

When my mother and my husband retired I took them out to eat and gave them books. This is what they enjoy so that is what I did for them.

If you shop Amazon you could check if your co-worker has a wish list and purchase from her list.

I agree with the gift cards. My husband just retired and he didn't want a party or anything, so we as a family just went out to eat and had a nice cake, and contributed to his fund for an E Bike...

Maybe get her a gift card with her interests in mind-or even a Visa Gift Card good anywhere is always good, and then if you want to get a small more personal gift-that is always really nice as well.

Bet you will miss her at work. But nice for her.

Could several of you take her out for a fun evening? Memories might be better than something for her house.

Or something you know she would like for a birthday?

I agree and a gift card to a place that she can purchase something that will bring her joy is perfect. You may not know what she has if she is into crafting or reading so a gift card lets her pick what she would really like.

I agree that an Amazon gift card would be nice...you can get anything and everythign at Amazon. Or a gift card to her favorite grocery store would be useful. I also like the suggestion of taking her out for a fun evening since she has become a friend to you,

It's different for everyone. Sleep wasn't even a blip on my radar when I retired 8 years ago.

Working in the yard was the first thing I wanted to do after retiring. My dog and I spend time mowing, planting, watering, playing, etc etc as much as we can. It's become my favorite way to relax and shut out noise of the world.

We got a friend a cute patio chair for her deck. Since she was looking forward to having time to sit outside and relax and now she has a nice chair to do that in.

If she likes flowers, a flower of the month delivery, if not, fruit or whatever she likes along with a letter revisiting the good times you and she shared and letting her know that you will miss her.

To me, gift cards are impersonal, an easy option to fulfill an obligation.

I don't agree with this statement that gift cards are impersonal. I love getting gift cards.

I agree with the others that a gift card is the way to go. She probably doesn't need anything. An Amazon card, restaurant card, or any type of card would be great.
