Just left my ortho dr,and was prescribed a steroid for horrible nerve pain when I'm sleeping.Long story short,I'm assuming I am done seeing him,but nothing was said about it.I didn't have to make any future appts,apps, nurse said I had improved.He was either in a hurry,backed up with other patients,or that is his way of saying.......SEE YA...It was very nice having both jobs off today.(OH YA,HE SAID TO NOT WEAR MY SPLINT AS MUCH.End of story!

I would be careful with a steroid prescription. You need to know about this drug. Does the Dr. want you to take it continually? I've taken steroids and the Dr. was very careful to make sure I understood when and how much to take as well as it's "end" date.. Call the nurses station for your Dr. and make sure he or his nurse takes the time to explain the drug to you and for how long to take it. Look it up on the Internet and compare what it says to what they are telling you. In other words.... you deserve better communication than you're receiving. Good lucik!

If you have any problems, be sure to contact his office. Steriods can cause all kinds of issues and it sounds like the communications between you two have broken down. Please read up on steriods and why you are taking them in order to understand his reasoning for prescribing them. Hopefully, you'll know more.

If not, contact his nurse and ask a lot of questions.

@Luvsmyfam I've never heard of steroids being prescribed for long term nerve pain. Did he issue refills or just the one prescription? You may have to address this with your regular doctor if this doesn't help. I know this has been hurting you for a while.

I receive a medicine called gabapentin I take at night for some pain caused by nerve damage. It's really helped me a lot with it. Also, if you feel like your ortho Dr is one of the type who are basically done after surgery etc., see if your regular Dr will refer you to a different one. This happened to me one time with a GI Dr. ❤️

You obviously have a lot of inflammation in your wrist, resulting in the nerve pain. The steroid med will reduce that inflammation; you should notice a difference within 24-48 hours. Please take the medication; this will be a short term thing. I wouldn't think your prescription is for more than 7-10 days.

I agree that your ortho treatment is over.

It is a long slow process. I might have mentioned before I was told to expect the healing process to take about one year. And it did--before I was pain-free.

Why did your doctor tell you to NOT wear your splint? My doctor said I did not have to wear mine, but I wore it whenever outside the house. I even wore it to bed. I did not want anyone bumping into my incision which could have sent me through th roof.🤯

@Luvsmyfam You need to call the office and ask questions at least of the nurse. How long do you take the med? ASK if you need a follow up. He sounds like he was too busy for you, not good. I've had to take a steroid in the past and one thing you are NEVER told (ask me how I know!) is that it CAN increase your appetite while on it.

A few years ago I jokingly told my doc that if he ever had me take it again he had to also give me a gift card to McDonald's. My sister had told me she had this same reaction.

Don't the doctor's office brush you off. Get answers to all your questions.

@Love my grandkids Actullay I did call and talked to a nurse.She said after reading my chart it does not say I have to come back anymore and that wrist movement has improved greatly.Also I am supposed to wean off my splint.My pharmacist told me 1 of the side effects is feeling hungry and to start tomorrow bc it could affect my sleep.It is 6 pills 1 day and 5 the next until I. Down to 1(Presidone)

@Luvsmyfam. Steroids taken except for very short term can be dangerous with lots of nasty side-effects. You may need to see a neurologist or pain management specialist.

Just a heads-up. Short term steroids can be very beneficial and some have no issues but others like myself don’t react well.

Major hunger and emotional changes are common.

You have been prescribed a medrol dose pack. Don't be afraid to take it. My husband takes these several times a year for inflammation with COPD flares. The steroid does not increase his appetite, but does run his blood sugar readings into the 300 range for a few days.

Strange things happen. After I had my front teeth replaced with implants, I had FACIAL NEURALGIA for about a month. It was excruciating, but luckily I have a cast iron stomach, and took ASPIRIN by the handful until it went away by itself.

Looks like Luvmyfam is on the standard tapered dose of Prednisone. Glad you're feelimg better.

@Luvsmyfam Continue getting better...most important thing. I agree w/ others to contact the doctor's office and check with nurse or I'd ask to get a call back from the doc. You need to know the answers to your questions and also about taking steroids.
