Alone yes, but not lonely. I do life as I have to and try to focus on

People I meet rather than myself. I look at it as my lot in life, it won't last forever lol.

I've lived alone for over 30 years now. No family either. Just me and my dogs. I wouldn't know how to live with anyone in my house, it's been too long. Sometimes it's gets lonely but that's just part of living alone.

@SilleeMee I have to ask....What are the breeds of your doggies and what are there names? I had neighbors that had two cute dogs that I just loved but they moved away. I'm so sad. I am not home enough for a dog and I would hate to keep the pup in a kennel.

I adopt older golden retrievers, just one at a time. So far I have had five goldens. The one with me now is "Flute", like the instrument. I call her Fluters.

There are many people on this board who are alone. I've spent holidays for the past 10 or 12 years all by myself. It's okay; I don't sit around engulfed in tears and depression.

I could fly to Pennsylvania and visit my sister, her daughters and their families but it's not convenient and becomes very expensive when you have to board two dogs, not to mention it's traumatic for the dogs.

There will be conversation here on the boards over the holidays.

I have lived alone for over 30 years. I have my family close by but they are busy working. I spend holidays with them. I do get lonely at times but it passes. I know it must be hard to not have someone to share the holidays. I do wish you the best.

I heard on the news that loneliness has become a problem in our society. I do think having a pet is wonderful and great companionship.

I am "learning" how to be alone (spouse passed in August) truthfully love my family (who are 1500 miles away) but traveling home has been exhausting & expensive.

Life was perfect visiting by Skype, phone calls, etc. but now family "expects" me to come more often. They have jobs, families, sports and more -- so I feel like I'm just sitting around waiting for them.

I can say I'm not lonely I always find something to do. I love coming here and reading the posts, I have no problem traveling or going to movies, lunch, etc, alone.

Thankfully I live in FL and the weather is beautiful so I spend a lot of time at pool where there is always someone to chat with.

I will admit I'm having the hardest time cooking for one -- I don't do fast food and love to cook & bake this is one of my biggest challenges!

Stop by here there are lots of wonderful posters here who will lift your spirits😊😊

I am alone and will spend Thanksgiving alone. I have come to really dislike holidays. All of them. Every single one of them. I'm very self sufficient, but when I lost my husband 3 years ago I didn't think that being alone and very lonely would affect me so much. I was wrong.

I am sorry that you will be alone. I hope that you have maybe some friends that you could meet up with? I am grateful and thankful that I stil have DH. We don't have any other family members that we are able to get together for the holidays. You see and hear people talking about all the plans they have with family and it makes you feel wistful and sad at times. I hope that if you are alone, that you will make a nice meal for yourself or get something good delivered. Maybe read an interesting book, listen to some light music, go for a walk to try and get your mind off of the holidays. I send my best wishes to you and blessings!!!!

Alone, yes.

Sometimes it's nice, sometimes it's not. But life is always like that.

If I wanted to get out with people, I certainly could. There are always opportunities to do so. If I wanted to invite people here, I'm sure I could have a houseful.

Even though circumstances have put me in this position, in the end it's my choice.

Before the pandemic I knew I liked to have time by myself. The pandemic proved I need time by myself.

I would rather feel alone by myself than lonely in a room full of people.

Agree 100%! I know there are people who couldn't wait to see family and friends once the pandemic was over but I am not one of them.

@katie1859 I feel for you and others who are alone. I've never lived alone. I went from my dorm back to my folk's house and then to an apartment with DH after marriage.

While we're doing our packing up to downsize, I'm seriously thinking of purchasing a condo in a retirement community. We won't be ready to move/sell house until DH is 81...I'll be 77. I want to be around a few people when I choose, have activities, meal prep when I can no longer cook and medical care on site.

We do have long term medical care insurance, but before nurses are necessary, I want to be assured someone's available if I need help.

You know, I'm pretty sure that we all have visions of holiday get-togethers that look like a Norman Rockwell painting!

But, in my memory banks, holidays were not so. It was nice to see people together, but everything snow-balled out of normal proportions and so became exceptionally stress-filled,

I am now along and very happy for it. On those holidays, there are moments of loneliness, but these feelings are fleeting.
I agree with the poster who says it is better to be alone than with someone who makes you feel lone when you are with them.

So you can come here for "chatter!"

I am alone alot--by choice most times----but do have family for holidays too. I live with my DD and DS is close by--no spouse --thank heavens!!!
