Cake Smashing At Wedding Reception...

Just watched the local news and saw cake smashing in the faces of the bride and groom at their wedding reception.

Some brides were not happy.

When I got married told my husband no cake in my face!!!

Would it bother you? Or, just all in good fun.

Just curious, no wrong/right answer.

I always thought it was not cool and I didn't want to do it at my own wedding. Why spend a lot of money on a beautiful dress, hair & makeup only to get it ruined and look terrible? Who wants to look bad on their wedding day?

I have seen videos of some who didn't want to do it and yet their spouse still smashed the cake in their faces. It seems very disrespectful to me and not a good way to begin a marriage.

I have seen some aggressive cake smashing. It is so juvenile.

I was a teen bride. I got married at age 19 and my husband was 20. There was no cake smashing going on.

If you are mature enough to get married, you should act like an adult.

If I was a bride who spent a small fortune for my dress, hair and make-up and my groom smashed cake on my face, that marriage certificate would never be filed with the county.

If they want to do it to each other, fine, even though it makes no sense to me. But if one or both say no we're not doing that and then one does it, that's so disrespectful.

I never saw the point of it other than to make a mess of the bride. It's certainly not funny. It was common when I got married but not at MY wedding. I think it's out of style now. It's been many years since I've seen it at a wedding.

It is juvenile and foolishness to me. You both are dressed in your very best clothes, makeup and hair done to perfection for an important day in both your lives and you want to mess all that up?? No thank you.

It always reminds me of something grade school boys would do and think it was funny. It's never made a bit of sense to me. I agree with the other comments, especially that it is so disrespectful to do to each other.

I've never understood this juvenile "tradition". I have seen some clips, where the bride said no, but the groom went ahead and did it anyway. I've often wondered how long the marriage lasted. (In my case, it would've ended there and then...as in "don't even think about it"!)

I did see a video online where parents were celebrating their child's first birthday. The husband kept trying to get the baby to smash its face into the cake - apparently, another ridiculous new "tradition".

When the baby didn't cooperate, the husband picked the whole cake up and smashed it into his wife's face, even as she was telling him "NO!" She was furious - said she'd just gotten into her beautiful dress for the party and he did that? Cake all over her face, in her hair, on her dress, everywhere.

What kind of jerk does that? I'll be filing the divorce papers. (I've never liked those who play "practical jokes" or pranks on others. Thankfully, my DH and I agree on that!)

If both parties agree, it's no skin off my back. I've never been to a wedding where anyone did that. But I did attend a wedding where the groom and some in the wedding party jumped into the resort pool fully clothed.
