Snow Next Week!

We’ve already had snow on Pikes Peak and some ski areas, but it’s supposed to snow [and probably just flurries] next week here on our mountain. It’s that crazy time of year here in Colorado.

Our three fur boys will be rather happy.

@Malcontent , awww, I can imagine the excitement from your fur boys when the snow falls.

We see very little snow in West Texas, as a rule. Some snow in December through February.

@Malcontent Enjoy it! We got no snow here in eastern PA last year. We're hoping for better things this year because of El Nino. Winter is my favorite time of the year because of the snow. It's magical!

@Tissyanne. My last year in Midland, 1998 I believe, we had 10" in one snowfall in December. I bet they haven't had so much since.

Here in NJ we didn't get much snow last year either, and I do love winter. I look forward to snow, hot chocolate, baking, decorating for the holidays, cozy blankets, fleece jammies and a crackling fire in the fireplace. The feeling of the cool, crisp air on my cheeks as I step outside, the blanket of snow on the ground, and the holiday spirit all contribute to my love for this season. I enjoy bundling up in warm clothing and going for walks in the snow, it's a great way to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of the season.

I'm in Pa, and had only about 7" of snow all winter and hoping for a repeat this winter. I don't like it at all.

I'm jealous. It's still over 100 degrees in Arizona. I want rain for days and cooler weather. I don't know what we did to make Mother Nature angry at us but she needs to get over iit.

I'm very happy you're getting snow out there since that front is supposed to come into my area next week and finally bring some cooler fall temperatures (and much needed rain) by next weekend.

Until then we may break a few records and be near triple digits .🥵

Looking for love in low places.....

I was traveling in Colorado one October and thousands of them came down a hill, across the road, down into a valley. We drove thru them and I was freaking out because the jerk I was with wanted to stop. We didn't stop.

Each fall, large numbers of tarantulas skitter across the landscape in La Junta and southeast Colorado. Yes, tarantulas!

While this phenomenon has traditionally been called a migration, it is actually an annual mating ritual performed by male tarantulas who roam across the 443,000-plus acres on the Comanche National Grassland looking to mate.

While there are numerous species of tarantulas, you are likely to spot the Oklahoma Brown Tarantula in La Junta.

This dark brown to black species of the genus Aphonopelma is common here because its females prefer to make their burrows in the plentiful undisturbed prairies on the Comanche National Grassland of Southeast Colorado. Once these females have made their burrows, they tend to stick close to them for the entirety of their lives, which can be 25 years long.

Makes me think of a trip to AZ and was told to check my shoes for scorpions before putting them on! WHAT?!?!?!

@Malcontent What is your elevation in Colorado? Here in Denver metro still in the 80's & no sign of snow.

I’m south of you located geographically on a mountain that runs east to west. The only one that does so in Colorado.

I'm a couple of states east and north of you.

Our last 3-4 winters were pretty mild - I used the snowblower 4 times last winter.

I was looking at predictions for this winter. Even the Farmer's Almanac and some reputable sources say my area will receive snow October-April, significantly more snow than usual, and a lot of -0 temps. We had snow and record cold through Memorial Day this past year so April sounds better.

I can handle the cold. I hate ice and the heavy/wet 18-24" snowfalls.
