No good deed goes unpunished

I was always wondered about this saying.

until...

I cut down some branches and offered them to my neighbors for their fire pit. I thought "win-win." I get rid of the branches. Landfill takes less trash. They get free firewood.

They said "sure, just bring them over and drop them off in our yard. We will open the gate."

Just looking for other lighthearted tales for laughs. Don't wanna bring anyone down.

Sounds like our neighbor who always wanted to know where the landfill was that we took our trash.....offered to let her come with me and she declined......she really wanted us to take her trash.

@Dragonflyveb Last year I had some pieces of furniture I was looking to donate. They were in excellent condition. I called a local donation center & they were very excited about getting them .I explained that I had no way to get them to the center. The woman on the phone said no problem,they have someone who would pick the pieces up. I gave her my phone number.

The next day I got a call from a guy, to make an appointment to pick them up. He asked me to describe the pieces. He then said that will be $149 + tax!! I told him that they were for the charity & they said they would have someone pick them up.He said it was nice of me to donate the pieces but he had to make a living & that the charity should have told me that there would be a charge.

I told the guy that I wasn't going to pay to donate the furniture. I ended up giving the pieces to a neighbors relative, who came with a friend & a truck.

What is the diameter of the branches? There is a big difference between a fire pit and a burn pile.

You were asking him to trim waste, cut firewood and dispose of waste.

Much more of a chore than a good deed.

@Dragonflyveb My view of this? Take them, don't take them, your choice, nobody is injured. It's not like they asked you for the branches. . .

Sounds to me like the neighbor was just doing a good deed by taking them to help OP out by letting her get rid of the branches.

I had already cut up the wood into 2 ft lengths for disposing in trash bins, so no work on their part. No large branches, under 2" in diameter. They wanted me to haul it over to their yard. I would have even helped, but not doing it all myself. Too old for that.

To me, that's like giving away a microwave and people want it delivered....

people are funny sometimes.

@NicksmomESQ - It might be a good idea to find out if the charity knows that this guy is charging people to pick up goods for them. It wouldn't be the first time someone is doing this "on the quiet", assuming no one will contact the charity about it.

If you didn’t tell them at the time you offered that they would need to come and get them, then either tell them now or deliver them or just fuggeddabout the whole thing.

I think if you wanted your neighbor to come get them then that should have been communicated at the time.

Otherwise you would have been taking them somewhere yourself anyway for disposal.

@Venezia I did & was told they were aware, but thought that if someone was kind enough to donate, they wouldn't mind paying to get it there. I politely disagreed & advised them that I wouldn't be paying to donate anytime soon.

How were you punished? My guess is they thought they were doing you a favor by taking the branches off your hands. They didn't ask you for the branches, you asked them. At any rate. No one was put out or inconvenienced and no one did any good deeds.

@NicksmomESQ - LOL. Sounds like the time, when my DH's father passed away (this was in England). He and his sister (both live here) contacted a company that buys estate furniture to empty the house.

The man that showed up, walked around, made a list of everything (all in good condition) and then told them that he'd "only charge them $$$$" to "take it all away"!

They declined. (And made other arrangements.)

This is going to be kind of a "heavy" discussion, so stop here if you dont want "heavy."

To me, Feelings are Feelings. Our Feelings are neither right nor wrong. They're Feelings! And need, deserve to be honored BY US, ourselves.

And in touch with our Feelings offer US an important Barometer, or Weather Vane, to trigger US abt what went right or wrong about OUR situation.

And what perhaps, can we learn from being in touch with our "Feelings Barometer."

And since we cant control, other People, Places, or Things, what can we, using our own Personal Power, do the next time, in similar situation. Do we do the same, or differently in a similar situation to come, next time? Cause we have much more control over US, certainly, than we'll ever have control over other ppl. (meaning NEVER control over other ppl)

For instance, using your own Personal Power, honoring yr Feelings abt this situation, what can, honoring your "Feelings" teach you abt the perhaps next similar experience. It's very personalized, (& within yr own Personal Power abt you).

"Learning experience," or "Gratitude Experience," Barometer for example.

WARNING tho

(Certainly, DO NOT pull a gun on a person!! please! Acting on THOSE Feelings will get cha in BIG TIME trouble!!) heh
