I think I lost my "friendly" male cardinal this year. He was always hanging around, and when he would come on the deck I would tell DH that he was telling me the feeder was empty. That's as close to friendly he got with me. I had a sick or injured cardinal right before I left for my ski trip. I called the local wildlife rehab group, but due to bird flu they are not allowed to take in any birds.

There's a new guy hanging around, but I have only seen him on the new feeder once. I tried putting the old one back out since it appeared he preferred that one, but then I found a big hole that the squirrels were taking advantage of, so he's out of luck. It's still not getting as much action even from the other birds, except a couple of finches, but that's what I have at the moment, and so far, the squirrels have not been able to break into it.

I get the cardinals year-round here.

I too love the birds, particularly cardinals and we have them all year long. About 10 years ago we had a breeding pair grace us with a nest and the descendents have returned year after year. Love seeing them!!!

@Sweetbay magnolia we have a cat roaming our property, first time in many years, I'm not sure where belongs but he is about to disappear...(I will trap and rehome him).

We live on a lake and although it's kinda hard to see here I have an old fishing basket hanging on the lower level as decoration. The cardinals have decided it is home. They nested here for about three years in a row and then the last couple years we didn't see them at all....but they're baaaaaaack!

We have a Mr and Mrs Cardinal visit our bird feeders regularly. And we like to see the yellow finches.

But starlings come in and empty out the suet and feeders in no time.

And sadly as @Sweetbay magnolia said a neighborhood cat. You see clumps of feathers once in awhile. I feel bad that we are attracting birds and then they are attacked. The neighborhood cat took out a Momma rabbit a week ago. And a Fox took one of her babies. I saw him walking up the street with the little guy in it's mouth.

But it is still nice to see all the different birds hanging out at our feeders.
