Store Hours

What are the store hours in your area? Restaurants too. I've noticed around me, they keep changing and stoes and restaurants are closing earlier and ealier. I went to DSW the other day and they closed at 6pm. Some places that were once open on Sundays are not anymore, like Arby's. Starbucks shuts off their lights at 5.

Somehow the spell was broken a few years ago and I don't do stores much anymore. For me, midday works.

Most stores in Arizona open at 10 everyday except for Sundays when a few open at 11 or Dillards which opens at noon. Target opens at 8 everyday. Walmart is always open. Lowe's and Home Depot are open at 5 am. Restaurants open anywhere from 6am for breakfast or those that do lunch onward usually open at 10 or 11. As for closing time, I don't really pay a who lot of attention because I'm not someone who goes out later in the day. The stores open early so people can shop before it gets to hot.

A lot of the shopping center stores are open until 8pm, though I usually check to make sure. Our intown stores are hit or miss, they change the hours so I call them before making a visit. I don't think the stores realize how important reliable, dependable business hours are. We even have one shop that says to check facebook to see if they are in that day.....
The locally owned restaurants are sporadic too, they often have fluctuating hours, and then the owners wonder shy the chains are getting business that the locals do not.

Stores can only open if they have staff working, and hiring help is still a big problem.

@ScrapHappy Businesses especially restaurants, say they're being forced to close early because they're unable to hire sufficient help to staff their businesses. The employees they've got are spread too thin.

At the height of the pandemic, many stores were open for just one shift--10 am to 6 pm usually. Weren't enough employees. It is still a problem now. My pharmacy has reduced hours even if the store it's in is open longer.

Near my home in Arizona, Walmart opens at 6am, and Target opens at 7 am. Macy's opens at 10am and Dillard's opens at 11am.

In my area of southern WV, nearly every store has shortened their hours; Dollar General is still the only store open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week.

WalMart and Kroger open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Sunday hours at CVS are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Outback opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Hardee's closes at 7 p.m. daily, as does Biscuit World. I think Starbucks also closes at 7 p.m. Trucker daughters favorite BBQ place is only open 2 days a week now, for takeout only.

Anyone in this town who really wants to work should be able to have their pick of jobs from restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, etc., as signs are everywhere!

I would guess that they cannot find anyone to work.

What I would LOVE TO KNOW is how do people pay their bills without working?

Of the stores and gas stations that were open 24hrs here, none are anymore. 10pm is about it.

You also have to have customers buying enough in the middle of the night to justify staying open.

A number of people who used to work part time have ditched the regimented schedule for Shipt, Door Dash and other gigs.

Corporate America can't understand people leaving toxic workplaces.

I read an article yesterday that talked about many women with young children have left the workforce because they can’t find daycare. The entire childcare industry was decimated the past couple of years and in many cases childcare is unavailable, and there are a wait lists lasting years.

Some who were at or near retirement age also left the workforce.

Of the 20-30 somethings I know (quite a few), at least half are working from home via some type of social media gig or remote work position. The downside is many of these jobs don’t carry benefits but I suppose service industry jobs usually don’t either.

My husband went out to lunch last Monday. There was one waitress going crazy. She said the bartender called out. She said she was unable to get anyone else to come in. So she was it. She said she scheduled light because it was a Monday lunch. And she hoped she could get by with only her as a waitress and one bartender.

She said that is why they are trying to sell the 100+ year old Hotel/Restaurant. They can't get anyone to work. It is sad because it always had such good food.

It was the go to place for lunch with my husband's friends from work. They go on a regular basis.

And my son is back to working six days a week. Thankfully, it is not back to 7 - yet.

They keep hiring an assistant for him. But the assistants don't want to work 5 days a week and they want to work whatever hours work best for them.

The company is open 24/7 - it has to be when you supply prescriptions to nursing homes and prisons. They have many responsibilities to meet.

My son came home from work last night sick as a dog. I am waiting for him to just burn out one of these days.

PS - Boy oh Boy - Me running my mouth.

My son came home last night. He said his company was sold. And there will be quite a few layoffs of employees.

Here I was worried about him working 6 days a week. And now I wonder if he will be down to zero.

The mall stores and department stores are open until 9pm or 10pm. Fast food restaurants are open very late, like midnight but some are open 24/7. Some CVS and Walgreen stores are open 24/7.

Most stores are open until 9pm. I noticed that restaurants don't stay open as late as they used to. Bars, unfortunately, still remain open well past midnight.

Some places don't even keep their days & hours up-to-date on their website - Pearle Vision being one of them. I'll have to call the next time I need an adjustment to be sure they're open. Businesses are getting sloppy with housekeeping stuff like this. The pandemic put everyone into an "anything goes" mode.

@Snowpuppy I agree with all that you posted. Something else to consider is a lot of people died from covid and many more have been left with "long covid" which could be a reason they are

unable to work.

Many people have jobs where they can work from home and

more kids are being home schooled with a parent being at home

and not going out to work.

People have found ways to make money on the internet.

One of my grandsons started a business with photography. He is 18 years old and sells framed nature photography online and

in a gallery. He also does the photography for the sports teams at his high school and other local high schools. He is a senior this year and he has been doing the senior portraits for some of his classmates.

Another grandson started a new job this year and works from home three days a week. A third grandson has been doing Door Dash and said that he makes $1000. a week.

A grand daughter started working in marketing after graduating from college. She has been working at home for

two years.

Around here, most of the businesses with help wanted signs

are in low paying retail or restaurant jobs. The way rents and everything else have increased,it would take two of those low

paying jobs to make a living. The tough part of those type of jobs is that the workers are not given a steady schedule. They are changed weekly, at least around here. So, it would be very

difficult to coordinate two work schedules.

Some restaurants here (not chains) have changed hours to not be open Mon., Tues. or Wed. I guess they didn't have enough business or couldn't find help.

I always check before going to be sure about the hours.

Most brick and mortar stores in the LA area open at 11:00a bummer for people like me who's an early riser and likes to do my shopping early and be done with it. Several restaurants and fast food places now open at a later time, too. CVS pharmacy hours have been cut back due to shortage of help. I call ahead and check the business hours prior to leaving my house now.

Our local Mall is dying slowly. Stores closing, short staffed and nobody shopping. It's also been exacerbated by shootings over the past few years. New security measures have been put in place but I think it could be too late. It's become a depressing place to shop and the staff have zoned out. I'm renting nearby but I am moving out of this area shortly, it's becoming a scary place to live. Store hours seem to be the same but no shoppers. The only places I see busy are fast food/drive through stores in this area.
