SUBARU WAS A LEMON

We had this new car for 8 months and just traded it in. There was one issue after another and the car was at the dealer more than in my garage.

It had electronic, mechanical shut downs and didn't "recognize me" as the driver which changes my seat settings, mirrors, radio preferences and never bluetoothed to my hearing aids to make a call or answer one. They assured us before the purchase that once the car was properly set up, the hearing aids would not be an issue.

The GPS took us the long way around every time we used it, too. I did not have GPS in my previous car and that was a mian selling point for me.I was using Google Maps with my phone plugged in.

After many negotiations, we traded it in. The dealership owns many other car choices and they made us a great deal.

Anyone else purchase a car that was a pain from day one?

@Shanus I owned a car that should have been YELLOW in color. The muffler fell off when I went over a railroad track, the gear shift column came up out of the base, the lights all went out on my way down a highway one night. My lemon was actually a Chevrolet Monza that I got after graduation that was brand new......

Boy, you really had bad luck @Shanus ! I've always driven GM products, some used, and more recently, some new. Never experienced big issues with Pontiac, Chevy or Buick in over 40 years. Have yet to buy a Cadillac😁

Yes!!! I have a 2011 Mercedes SUV that is a piece of ******!!! Just constantly one thing after another. I can't count the number of times that I've had it towed to a dealership for repairs. The last time, it tore up on the way home from the dealership. Every tow guy that came to pick it up said that Mercedes was in the top 3 of crappy vehicles that they've towed in. I wouldn't own another one if they gave it to me!! And don't get me started on their customer support !!! Horrendous. The only reason I still have it is bc it's paid for.

@Shanus YES!!! I had a brand new car...and the rear differential (the rear end of the drive shaft) DROPPED OUT while I was driving the car. Luckily, I was on a city street and NOT the freeway. I was told that the "weld had broken loose".....and the manufacturer replaced it (took 3 weeks), I never felt safe in that car again, and I traded it as soon as the new year model came on the market. di

Yea, I had a lemon of a car around 1981 . It was so stressful .Traded it in after having transmission problems . Took a loss . Never bought that brand of car since .

We are Subaru junkies. It gets us up the driveway in the winter. We would NEVER want a car w/all the electronic junk. Over the years we have had more than 10 subs. Hubbs says the old ones are the best!

Inexpensive and built to stay that way.

The driveway thing: we also own a 1973 Jeep and a 1951 Ford tractor (Jubilee).

Wow @Shanus , sorry for this issue. IMO there is nothing more stressful than car trouble. My mechanic is nervous when I stop in or call as he knows it literally gives me a

meltdown. That being said, my daughter had a Chevy Equinox a couple years ago that was an absolute nightmare. I hate to say any particular brand is bad, I think sometimes it's a particular year or model. Either way it does make one hesitate to buy that brand again.

We are the type of people that keep our cars forever. Right now I drive a 2006 Nissan and DH drives a 2004 Ford Explorer, LOL! People think we're nuts but we sure do get our moneys worth out of our vehicles and we also take good care of them. One time one of my husbands peers told him he knows how he retired so young, because he drives the same car forever! Best of luck with your new vehicle.

I hate to read or hear about car troubles because any car issue puts me into a state of high anxiety, even when it is something really minor like the low pressure tire alert. My family has has Subaru Outbacks and Foresters since 1998 with nothing other than routine maintenance - until a 2018 Outback that blew an engine gasket requiring +$3000 in repairs. It was out of the warranty. Stress!!

Different family members have had a Honda, a Mazda, and a Toyota Rav. We've been lucky since they too only required routine maintenance. I am going to the next big auto show in our area late March to check out all the new models to replace my Forester because I'm now pushing past 125,000 miles. Even tho the Outback was a big expense, I'll look at the Subaru lineup along with all the other manufacturers in that range. Every few weeks there's news reports concerning auto recalls. Models across most manufacturers have not been spared. It is a sign of the times that points to the universal cr_'p shoot we statistically face with many transactions, not just vehicles. I hope none of you who have faced the past stressful problems encounter them with your next vehicle. Me neither! It's almost like ennie, meanie, miney... Well, maybe not quite since I'll do my research but still, there's always that chance I too could get a lemon in the garage.

@Shanus what model Subaru did you have? I hope your new vehicle is without hassles. You deserve peace after your ordeal.

@Pecan Sandie We keep our cars forever and sold my 17 yr. old BMW X5 SUV for the top of the line Subaru Forrester Touring SUV.

The BMW served me well and that's what we purchased...a BMW X3 SUV...now the size of the X5. It'll be the only and last car we own at our age. It will last until we are no longer driving.

@LindaSal sorry to learn your DD had problems with her Equinox. We bought ours new and it's been a great vehicle. Will get new tires next month, but that's a routine thing. One thing I seek is a good deal and the fewest frills possible.

Although any line of vehicle may have a lemon (I guess), I'm surprised at your problems with a Subaru. I have several friends who have driven Subaru's for years with little or no trouble and are repeat customers when purchasing new vehicles.

I have never been in a Subaru, but love your new choice of BMW and am confident you will be very happy with it for many years in the future. Enjoy the comfortable ride and excellent service!

I can't say we have had a "lemon" of all the cars we have owned. I currently have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and I absolutely LOVE this car. I have had it a few years now and still get excited to just get in it as well as drive it.

I think these new cars have so many electronic gadgets, they're like rolling computer farms. So many things that can and do go wrong. Remember KISS, everything is so complicated.

@Shanus - I've had my Subaru Outback for 5 years and love it. No problems. I bought it since a friend had one for years with 200,000+ miles on it and traded it in for a new model.

Oh yes! Yesrs ago I had a real lemon of a Volkswagen. Ugh! It was always in the shop! It even went through the lemon law in my state. I was so glad to get rid of it. I never bought another Volkswagen again.

They come in all brands. I had a '65 and an '85 model of cars I ordered from the factory, that somewhat fit that bill. Most of the problems you mentioned, I wouldn't have on any vehicle I bought new, unless that were standard on all their models.

Of the two I mentioned, 1 was a Ford, the other was an Oldsmobile. The Ford was at a time I was racing and towing, and I bought a new vehicle every 2 years. The 1st year the dealer had it as much as I did, and they always gave me a comparable model to drive during those times.

The Oldsmobile was pretty much the same. Spent most of the 1st year at the dealership, while I drove their similar loaner during that time. That car I owned for 21 years, and after the original issues, was a great car until the day I sold it to a friend. He drove it for over 10 more years.
