BELIEVE IN SOULMATES?

We had lunch today with 2 other couples we have known for many years! The subject of soulmates came up and we had a interesting conversation! We have all been happily married for many years and have grown children! Some of us felt we had married our soulmate, some did not! Comparing each others experiences and why we thought we were or were not was quite entertaining!! I think it is a fascinating subject!! Do you believe in soulmates?

I think it's a romantic term. Some people fall deeply in love and have wonderful relationships more than once. That being said, I would say soulmates exist for those fortunate enough to have experienced it. For the rest of us, we see those soulmate couples and dream it was us.

Absolutely. I think we can love more than one partner and have a good life with them. But I do think there is the one special person we're meant to go through time with. Some of us are fortunate to find them. Some are not.

I am one of the lucky ones. No doubt I found my soulmate in this crazy world.

Yes!! Before I met mine over 30 years ago I would have said a huge NO!! I used to laugh at those saying they found their "soulmate" but I get it now. I also have heard some who are happily married now say an ex was and always will be their soulmate.

I think "soulmate" means different things to different people. I also think some might pine for someone they thought was a soulmate and not appreciate what they have now. Sometimes what you think you need or even want is different from what you really want/need.

Maybe I would believe if I had met mine. Time is running out so probably not going to meet him. No one I have married could qualify as soulmate.

Yes, I do. But my opinion of soulmates has changed since I've gotten older.

When I was younger, I had this glamourized version of a soulmate and what it consisted of. He would be tall, dark and handsome, very successful and treated me like the princess I wanted to be!! I did, indeed, have a couple very serious relationships with men who fit this criteria -- or who seemed to -- on the surface. But, everything that shines and glitters is not gold!!! That's pretty much all it turned out to be was surface. These "princes" were not all they appeared to be.

After these painful experiences, I was very disallusioned and thought I will never find my prince charming, i.e., my soulmate.

Many years later, after I suffered a lot of toads, etc., I gave up entirely. Nearly un-noticed, strolled by my husband. A man who most would not give a second look at, self included, not the most handsome, dashing, or well dressed, not the dashing, tall, dark and handsome prince I had longed for as my soulmate in my younger days, but something about him -- grabbed my heart -- and that -- as they say -- was all she wrote!

He was nothing like what I had thought I wanted -- but he was, and is --- everything I need!!!!

I don't necessarily think "soulmates" refers to married couples. I believe you can have a friend as a soulmate - someone you feel you have known all your life. I think finding a soulmate is very rare. I haven't come close to experiencing this.

Yes, I do but I also think that if you do meet your soulmate, it's like a miracle because the odds are not with us. It doesn't happen often. Having said that, happiness in a marriage or relationship does not depend on marrying one's soulmate. No one should put their life on hold hoping to meet that person. You can have a lovely life with an "almost" soulmate.
