I never watch food shows but out of curiousity I checked the "gourmet foods" line up. 2 pies for $87 "reduced" from $106??!! The other items in that show also seemed over priced. Who buys this stuff???

Then it's not for you. Everything isn't for everybody. Judging by how often we have this conversation here, those pies are on air frequently. You think QVC gives repeat air time to stuff that doesn't sell?

Pies from the specialty pie shop in my town are $35 to $40 a piece. They are only open the same hours I work and the parking lot is unnecessarily narrow. $40 for a pie and $10 for convenience doesn't seem so bad to me,

I bought at holiday time for $60 range. Nothing to brag about...on the dry side and didn't cook all the apples from frozen.

Once was enough.............

Unless sending a gift, just get 2 frozen Pet Ritz pie crusts.

In the bottom of the ist crust, put fresh fruit mixed with sugar.

Put on the other crust, inverted

Use a fork all the way around to seal by mashing down

Cut vents in the top.

Bake on a bake sheet.

My 10 yr old GS was making fresh blue berry pies at the beach last year.

When I sent out dessert items as a gift, I used River Sweet Sweets. Small, handmade batches.

@kaydee50 I do occasionally as a special treat just for me or as a gift to someone distant. Of course it seems overpriced; they do all the work then ship it in dry ice by Second Day Air, all expensive propositions. I expect it to be an expensive luxury item.

Gee, thanks for telling me that they aren't for me. Like I said, I don't care how good they are or even how many people buy them, I think it's ridiculous -- and that's MY opinion.

YES, EXPENSIVE. NUTS, REALLY BUT I LIKE THESE PIES. BOUGHT THEM FOR THANKSGIVING AND WAS VERY DELIGHTED. BOUGHT THEM TODAY JUST BECAUSE. I'LL EAT PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES FOR A WEEK. GEE, I HAVEN'T PRICED PEANUT BUTTER RECENTLY. IT'S PROBABLY A LUXURY ITEM, TOO.

I'm lucky that my local farmer's market has a good variety of pies. I get them for the holidays but not eating them now. They are in the $18.00-$25.00 dollar range.. I also have a local Amish market that offers pies weekly. They are delicious!

I suppose the price is worth it for some people.

I am fortunate that making a pie is easy as pie for me.

I also have a sour cherry tree in my yard that put out tons of cherries. My freezer is full.

Making a cherry pie is really inexpensive for me and my pies are jammed with cherries...much more so than those canned pie fillings.

I make a lot of apple pies too. Hmmm, I wonder if I can sell my pies and make a fortune. Most flavors of pie are cheap to make.

Convenience is expensive.

I'd love to taste your cherry pie!

Some of my happiest childhood memories are sneaking a few sour cherries from a tree that hung across our property line. Canned pie filling cannot compare with fresh fruit.

That same neighbor grew red raspberries.

Both were heavenly!

If you have a Costco in your area their pies are excellent and they won't cost that much, and are a very nice 12 inch size.....
