When Do You Go From Middle-age to Old-Age & When From There to Elderly?

I think 70 is slipping into "Old-age" and 83-85 is slipping into Elderly -- BUT THIS IS JUST BASED ON SITUATIONS IN MY OWN EXTENDED FAMILY, not medical definitions, or covid definitions, or medicare definitions.

What do you think, "When Do You Go From Middle-age to Old-Age & When From There to Elderly?"

@Solar Is My Name Hopefully never or at least not anytime soon. Lol. But seriously I don't feel "old" but I'm sure younger people would not agree with me.

From the NIH:

The following are the American Medical Associations’ age designations:

Neonates or newborns (birth to 1 month)
Infants (1 month to 1 year)
Children (1 year through 12 years)

I'm 88. I try to eat right and work out physically and mentally. Folks marvel that I am able to wear shoes and boots with 5 inch heels. I guess I got a good set of DNA from my parents.

There should be no one-size-fits-all chart. Some people are old at 50 while others are young at 90.

I think when you live in the past, resist all change, and are contemptuous of the young , you are old , and that can happen at any age. JMO

Agree 1000%. My dad was a young 91 when he died, still subscribed to The Smithsonian, read many books, was fascinated with life and constantly learning.

That's true for the biology of it all and most doctors know that to be true. But for statistics, records and other forms used to classify us, we need charts.

I agree that middle or old age depends on the individual. But I laugh to myself when it is said that middle age is 50 or 60. That's middle? I hope that those who think that 50 or 60 is middle age

actually do live to 100 or 120. Not realistic, at least in my case 😀

I don't like terms like these....who comes up with the terms "old age" versus "elderly". I'm 74 and don't feel like I'm in "old age"....and elderly seems like it should belong to someone who is 85 or 90! Maybe that's because of my age!! LOL!
