Shabbat Shalom and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

I love reading all the posts and am so happy that we all feel comfortable coming here each week to share our thoughts, find friendship and connect with eachother.

The weather here in NC is crazy! Temps are in the teens and the wind chill will be single digits by afternoon. No white Christmas, just rain and miserable. The news says it's the coldest since 1982. That's a big WOW!

I hope everyone stays warm and safe. If traveling or having family/friends coming to your home for the holidays, safe arrivals.

If anyone is alone for the holidays, please come here to these forums. Some of us will be here to keep you company.

My "kids" are supposed to drive up to Northern VA or as they call it NoVa. I'm sure their plans may change. My DIL has all her relatives there and my DS lived in Alexandria and Georgetown. That's where they met at a landscape architecture firm. I love that they live so close, just a 1/2 hr. away, but I enjoyed going up there to visit and being in one of my favorite areas. My DD and her DH in Seattle didn't make it home this year, but will be visiting after the first of the year. She used to live in VA, too...McLean ...and we would drive up each month and see all of them.

Only a few nights of Hanukkah left and the menorah goes back on the shelf along with the others I collect. My Hanukkah tree stays up until the end of January. I enjoy the twinkling lights. I "threatened" DH that I may get fairy lights to hang over my headboard like my GDs. When I stay over and sleep in their rooms, it feels like the stars have come in for a visit.

We are experiencing crazy wind, rain, and a low temp of 10. Ice will make the roads treacherous I am sure.

We have to travel about 2 hours to our destination tomorrow...I hope this insane weather improves by then.

Hi all. The high today in the northern burbs of Chicago will be MINUS 1 with 45-55 mph wind gusts. When I took the pouch out earlier, the real feel was minus 35!

Happy Holidays to all! I love to read the beautiful stories each week. Thank you @Shanus for starting up today's very warm place to visit. Temps here are -5 deg with wind chill -32! I am so thankful to have a warm home and my heart breaks for the many who now are suffering with so many overwhelming issues and now this horrible weather to deal with.

Our little cul de sac did another collection of food and other products needed by a local shelter. Again we filled a neighbor's truck to the brim. I cried for joy to see toys, blankets, pillows, pj's and many other items needed. Even his seats were filled so there was another volunteer driver to transport the overflow!

Have a beautiful, joyous and safe holiday weekend!

We are excited for our DD to come from Seattle next week for New Year's. She insisted to her staff that they should be off to visit and celebrate Christmas & she will stay to pick up the slack!

Hoping all who gather here each week have a loving, joyous and safe holiday celebration! Here in Northern Virginia, we've had some strong winds that were preceded by cold, drenching rain yesterday into this morning. Wind chill of minus 10 is barging into our lives. Brrr...

We can count our blessings and pray that those who are less fortunate experience better times ahead.

Leaving an Italian dessert for all of you, Struffoli.

They are light, deep fried, dough balls covered in honey and sprinkles.

I think I made millions of these in my lifetime. I have vivid memories of rolling the dough into balls, with my maternal grandmother, as a young girl. Vivid memories of using the fryer, when I was older, and draining them on paper bags.

They are DELICIOUS and light when made well.

Good Shabbos and Happy Chanukah! Since we are a family comprised of people from different faith backgrounds and traditions, we are having a combined Christmas/Chanukah party this weekend. (Christmasukkah?) Can't wait to get together with my loved ones.

BTW - Like @Shanus , I collect Menorahs! I saw a clay one at Target on-liine this year, but it was sold out before I got a chance to order. Oh, well.

My Mom made Struffoli every Christmas. She made them with Wine.

As a toddler I couldn't say Struffoli so I called them Wine Balls...to this day my entire family refers to them as Wine Balls.

Good Shabbos & Happy Chanukah!! Luckily we had a big Chanukah party the first night; then everybody got sick. Nephew & his gf who came from London both have Covid. Little nephew is feeling sickly. Everybody is isolating in bedrooms.

Thank God my Dad is doing OK at home. I visit as much as I can; the weather is preventing much activity right now. It's -14 with a wind chill of about -45. I've been making lots of phone calls.

@dmod nj Such a wonderful post, thank you. I love that dessert, too. I had it in Italy when we were traveling in Europe. We had a seat at a counter in a wonderful restaurant and the women serving us explained the "ordeal" of how they're prepared....broken English, of course. They were delicious and difficult to stop eating once we started. Your photo brought back so many memories.
