Anyone remember Walter Cronkite

On this day in 1979 American Embassy was stormed. If you like history watch Argo w/Ben Affleck.

What I remember was watching Cronkite on the evening news and hearing him saying how many days the hostage situation still was. (Awkward sentence,sorry).

I'll never forget his telling us President Kennedy was dead. So far, no one compares to his news coverage. Miss him.

I remember and really miss when there were actual news reporters and not noisy commentators. I watched the evening news each night during the Vietnam War, thinking I might see one of "our" local guys on their newsreels. I can't watch news any longer, they seem to have gone the route of TV talk shows, trying to make as much noise as possible without saying anything other than their own personal views.

I agree that local news is pretty much useless after the first 3 minutes. 3 minutes is generous.

A couple of national networks do nothing but lie and twist facts to fit their ideology. It's easy to figure out which ones do this. Sadly about 30% of country isn't that bright.

I prefer certain national news networks. Some of it might lean a little bit in a certain direction but the guts are factual and they can back up what they say.

I don't rely on political ads for information. What can they really say in 10 or 20 seconds. It's easy to find non-partisan sites to check facts.

I don't watch the news either...either I don't trust it, fits their own agenda, more editorial than trying to state facts....Sometimes I think it's me..but then I hear my family and then my friends...and I feel better. I do miss him.

He was on for news all the time in our house. I remember they called him the most trusted man in America!

Of Course! Professional, accurate, and factual. When he announced President Kennedy had died I felt it clear down to my toes. I was in 4th grade and all of our teachers started crying. He was the tv newscaster that most people watched daily.

I still remember him announcing that President Kennedy had died as he wiped away a tear, 11-22-63.

I do remember watching the Iran Hostage crisis . I remember the angst was palpable . Everyone felt so helpless and worried abt the Hostages who were held for some 400 some days . HBO had a 4 part documentary called " Hostages " with old news clips and insight from some of the Hostages themselves.

Walter Cronkite was the most trusted man in America according to several surveys. He anchored the CBS evening news broadcast for many years. His announcement of President Kennedy's death is still chilling. Uncle Walter, as he was fondly called, presented the news without bias and opinion. He was a true journalist. The broadcast did have opinion pieces, delivered by others and clearly identified as such. Those days are gone and we're paying a steep price for it.

I remember him quite well, and used to watch and listen to him on national news broadcasts. He was a True Journalist that worked hard to get his information accuracy as close as 100% as possible.

Need more that are true journalists, not just some with a sheet of paper, saying they finished the prerequisites of using that title. Way too many that have those sheets of paper give only their opinions, not factual information.

During his time on the news, one took every word in as fact. One trusted that the research had been done without bias and the results were being laid out. The national news filled the time slot without fluff, cackling, obvious bias, etc. As a viewer I felt I knew what was going on in the world. Those were the good days!
