We are going on a trip, flying. I plan to take my cane. Do I

take it to my seat or keep give it to flight attentant

We have flown many times and I have never noticed what you do with a cane

My sister used a folding cane when she traveled, She folded it into her tote.

On Southwest Airlines, I put it under my front seat where my purse went.

I put my cane under the seat in front of me, too. I usually fly Delta.

I remember my mom boarded the flight in a wheel chair and the attendant gave the cane to a flight attendant. She was given the cane after she landed and was in the terminal.

If you have a folding cane, you can take it to your seat but you have to fold it and put it the overhead or in your carry on. You can put it in the pocket in front of you, which I sometimes do. If it's not a folding cane, you will have to ask the flight attendant for assistance in storing it.

@crazered I always have a cane with me when I fly. Every time I ask a flight attendant what I should do with it, I get a different answer. It either ends up flat on the floor under the seat in front or in the overhead bin. Ask what they'd like you to do with it.

Interesting comments.

Obviously it's a necessary item for many, but I'm surprised someone at TSA hasn't banned them for being a possible weapon. If some nut grabbed someone else's cane and started swinging, they could do a lot of damage.

I keep my cane. It can be folded and I either put it on the floor at my feet or put it in my tote bag which I put under the seat. Never occurred to me to ask a flight attendant!! And as for using it as a weapon??? it's bad enough I don't take my knitting needles (not circular) on the plane because they could be a weapon???!!!!

Because they can't ban all the millions of people who need canes to walk from flying....for something that has never happened and never will happen. That would be like saying ban suitcases in airports because someone might grab one and smash someone on the head with it.

@Tinkrbl44 I know and I was wondering of that was why Mom never saw hers until she landed. Now a days they would prefer to have the customer use a wheelchair than board with a cane.
