Hello my friends! Ash Wednesday today - started with 7:00 Mass, and Father gave a very good homily - he's very interesting to listen to. I made some fish for supper - they were sunfish caught by his brother who lives by the lake. I really don't have much to say today, but wishing you all a very blessed Lent - may you all find a way to get closer and closer to Jesus. He is the Way!

Closeness with family makes us one in heart and mind. Lord, help me to fill
our home with love and make it our safe haven from the troubles of the
world.

M E D I T A T I O N F O R T H E D A Y

There is almost no work in life as hard as waiting. And yet many times we
have to wait. All motion is more easy than calm waiting, and yet sometimes
I must wait until I am shown God's will. So many people have marred their
work and hindered the growth of their spiritual lives by too much activity.
If I wait patiently, preparing myself always, I can be some day at the place
where God would have me be. And much toil and activity could not have
accomplished the journey so soon.

P R A Y E R F O R T H E D A Y

I pray that I may wait patiently. I pray that I may trust God and keep
preparing myself for a better life.

Into the Desert by Bishop Robert Barron

In so many of the great figures of salvation history—Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, David, etc.—a period of testing or trial is required before they can commence their work. We see the same thing in the initiation rituals of primal peoples, and you can see it in Luke Sky walker’s initiation in Star Wars.

The goal of the Biblical initiation rituals is to convey this simple truth: your life is not about you. It is about God and God’s purposes for you.

This was the purpose of Jesus's forty-day sojourn in the desert, which we model during Lent. The desert represents a stripping away of our attachments, so as to make the fundamental things appear. In the desert, there are no distractions or diversions or secondary matters. Everything is basic, necessary, and simple. Either one survives or one doesn’t. One finds in the desert strengths and weaknesses he never knew he had.

So are you ready to visit your desert? Are you prepared to deal with your particular temptations to pleasure, power, money, and honor? Even if, in the past, you have not succeeded in the ways you wanted, remember that our God is a God of second chances. It’s never too late to start again.

On this Ash Wednesday, let's recommit ourselves and together journey into the desert.

Wait

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried,
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
And the Master so gently said, "Child, you must wait".

"Wait? You say, wait! " my indignant reply.
Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By faith, I have asked, and am claiming your Word.

My future and all to which I can relate
Hangs in the balance, and You tell me to WAIT?
I'm needing a 'yes', a go-ahead sign,
Or even a 'no' to which I can resign.

And Lord, You promised that if we believe
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord, I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply!

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate
As my Master replied once again, "You must wait."
So, I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut
And grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting.... for what?"

He seemed, then, to kneel, and His eyes wept with mine,
And He tenderly said, I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.

All you seek, I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want--But, you wouldn't know Me.
You'd not know the depth of My love for each saint;
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint.

You'd not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there;
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence were all you could see.

You'd never experience that fullness of love
As the peace of My Spirit descends like a dove;
You'd know that I give and I save.... (for a start),
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of My heart.

The glow of My comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight,
The depth that's beyond getting just what you asked
Of an infinite God, who makes what you have last.

You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that "My grace is sufficient for Thee."
Yes, your dreams for your loved one overnight would come true,
But, Oh, the loss! If I lost what I'm doing in you!

So, be silent, My Child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to get to know Me.
And though oft' may My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still, "WAIT."

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

I asked for Strength ... and God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for Wisdom ... and God gave me Problems to solve.

I asked for Prosperity ... and God gave me a Brain to work.

I asked for Courage ... and God gave me Danger to overcome.

I asked for Love ... and God gave me Troubled people to help.

I asked for Favours ... and God gave me Opportunities.

I received nothing I wanted ... I received everything I needed!

May your path be bright and full of light everywhere you go.

May the desires of your heart come true, and may you experience Peace in everything you do.

Fasting

"When you fast do not look gloomy," Jesus says (Matthew 6:16). Today's consumer society looks on fasting itself as gloomy. Urging everyone to eat, drink, and buy more and more, our world today has made fasting unfashionable.

Yet the gospel message says more and more can ruin human life. An acquisitive spirit is a selfish spirit. And as the alarming numbers of people addicted to drugs and alcohol today prove, the taste for too much can destroy.

Food and drink, clothes and amusements - the good things of life - can turn into your captors, Jesus teaches. In our acquisitive, pleasure-oriented society, fasting is a way of keeping ourselves free.

This Lent, recognizing the hold things have on us, let us try, with God's help, to keep them in their right place. Some reasonable abstaining from food, drink and entertainments can help us do that.

Indeed today we have new compelling reasons for taking fasting seriously. As the resources of our planet are increasingly threatened, it becomes clear that the human family, especially those living in affluent nations, can no longer be unlimited consumers. We must develop a leaner, less wasteful way of life.

A Prayer for Ash Wednesday

Lord, protect us in our struggle against evil.

As we begin the discipline of Lent,

make this season holy by our self-denial.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

St. Scholastica - Feast Day Feb. 10

O Beloved Jesus, Saint Scholastica enjoyed spending hour upon hour talking with family and friends about the nature of God and the joys of spiritual growth. She found so much energy in this activity that she would continue all night long! I submit to You, O Lord, all of my conversations. May I speak only words that glorify You. Bring to me companions who have the same enthusiasm for faith-sharing. Protect us from shallow chatter and from sinful gossip. Help us to take time out of our busy lives to come together for the sake of mutual support and spiritual growth. Saint Scholastica, pray for us. Amen.

Gloria it is so nice to come to this Thread.

Some of the other Threads are so disheartening, with people

complaing and being offended by some of the Hosts that sell the

religious jewelry.

They complain about Shawn, Marybeth and Dan Wheeler(who just lost his wife) and say they are too religious.

They are all lovely people and good Christians.

Isn't it bad enough there are a few who want to get rid of God altogether?

I answered that post and it was taken off.

I wonder how long this will last,

Thanks, Harlene! I agree with you! It's such a shame that some do want to get rid of God altogether and He's the reason we're here and trying to live our lives to the fullest in HIs Will for our eternal Home in Heaven.
