Hello there birding friends. It's sunny and expected to reach the 40's today. Last week, I thought I saw some kind of storm forecast for groundhog's day. I think we are expecting rain so I won't complain about it. I don't know if Gerry my groundhog under the front porch has had a good hibernation this year or not. Weather has been too weird. I suppose Gerry will emerge when Gerry is ready, I certainly won't be fussing that groundhog.

Hi everyone! Very cold, but sunny.

I woke up yesterday morning, after not having much sleep at all, to an ad on the screen preventing me from getting into my mail and online. I only got up to get DH's list of things to do, so from now on, I am going to email it to him at work on Saturdays.

It seems my computer had been hacked and a worm was found, so after many hours on the phone, off and on, with a specialist tech, the issue seems to have been solved. It made me realize that I had better get all pictures onto discs ASAP. FedEx is to pick up the check for payment to the tech, seems weird, why not just have me mail the check, I wonder.

The company just now called to see if everything was okay. Apparently, my IP address is protected for life now after the process yesterday.

Winifred, I don't know what the problem is with the stores not carrying this Patty Pan squash. It's also called Scalloped Squash. It's fairly easy to raise and so delicious especially when picked and used right away. I cook it with the skin on if it's still tender. I use my fingernail to test that. I can eat a whole pan of it, just boiled with onions and tomatoes(fresh). and butter. I guess you can use olive oil, haven't tried that yet, probably healthier.

I don't know how it would do being container grown, Seeds into a planter with good dirt, in the sun and where there's room for the vines to trail. I know squash bugs like to attack the plant but in a container, they'd be easier to control. Out in the garden I had a time with those pests, but they didn't attack the sguashes, just the vines and some of the leaves. I hope you can find some of them somehow, this summer. Good eating for sure,

I am fluttering my wings and landing after such a long and delayed flight from Whidbey Island Wa. I have been flying around the world hence my absence. Well, I haven't really flown around the world but I have been gone a long time. Thanks to birdmama she caught up with me and pulled me back where I belong.

I have been reading past posts and enjoy catching up. '

In September I had elective surgery and as a result have lost 55 pounds. Three back specialists concured that my last hope that loosing weight would be the answer but believed it to be the greatest possibility since back surgery was not an option. I did a lot of preparation for this surgery and still am working on the loosing weight. I still want to loose 30 more pounds. I am working with a dietition trying to at in a more healthy way.

As if that wasn't enough a year ago we almost lost our 20 yro granddaughter to viral encephalitis. She was at the D.C. airport waiting to board when she colapsed. They took her to the hospital in Virginia where she was unconsious for weeks. When she did regain conciousness she could not walk, talk, eat, and was like a wild person. She spent 5 weeks in the hospital with her parents by her side. When she was able to come home she came to the Seattle area and spent three months there in treatment. She has had extensive dr. visits and therapy and had to relearn all skills we take for granted. It has been a year and she has made a miraculous recovery. She still has some cognitive problems but her specialists are very pleased that she has recovered so well.

Well, it is bed time and I am falling asleep. I am so glad to be back and will check in tomorrow.

Possum, the people in the stores tell me the reason is people slowed down on purchasing the squash. The produce and meat areas of the markets are now stacked with items people not USA oriented seem to prefer. I believe in helping one and all but to stop handling basic food items makes no sense. I have a few other comments to make but will not. At any rate I sure want to eat what I like. LOL. Also love the CArdinal pictures - always do.

Meuw, glad to see you decided to land AND visit again. Now if only we could get more of the original people back. While some have passed on there are still an abundance of the original Fence posters alive and also the Bird Nest posters. They just stopped coming to the boards when the Q went thru a zillion changes a few years back - most had already left before this last miserable change. It use to be very easy to post here - then it got complicated. LOL.

Gotta run, will check back later. Must keep checking on Davey to make sure he is still moving - there IS school today.

@meuw Glad to see you back, meuw. I am so sorry that your GD was so ill, but am glad to hear she has recovered so well.

It is really true that the older one gets, the more difficult it is to lose weight. The body wants to hang on to every ounce it seems. I wish you success.

When last we posted together, your beloved husband Ron was ill. Is he doing better now? Thank God your granddaughter is doing better and I am so pleased that you are recovering from your surgery. Be patient with yourself Meuw - it took a lifetime to develop certain eating habits and it takes time to develop new ones.

It sounds like you have had a busy year and lots of things going on.

I am glad your granddaughter is making a good recovery at last from such a scary situation. I haven't a clue how you get viral encephalitis, just the name is scary. What a relief your family must have felt when she was able to come back to your home area. I pray that she gets back to 100% soon.

You sure did well in losing some weight. I wish I could lose some, but it's harder and harder the older I get. My son's an excellent cook/chef, and we don't eat supper till about 8 in the evening. At home I eat about 5 pm so I can burn off some of the calories from that meal..

If I remember correctly, you lost one of your Abyssinian cats. Do you still have one of them. They sure are beautiful. I am back watching the Savannah Nest Cam with the Great Horned Owl pair. So far, Mrs, Savannah Owl has laid 2 eggs. They started a lot later this year and today it was really warm in Georgia. I felt bad for her having to sit in the sun on the nest.

Time for me to hit the shower. Have a lovely Wednesday, Everyone and stay safe.

It did get into the mid 80ies here today. NOT WINTER here!!!

@Bird mama I am a cat person first, and the purr of a tiny kitten is the most heartwarming sound, a tiny purr but so strong and loud. I melt whenever I see a kitten. Years ago, DH came home to find me cuddling with a kitten and said, "I've never seen you so happy."

The squirrel in this photo is flirting with danger for sure. He/She has been coming close to the nest for the past couple of days and Mama Owl goes into her threat pose to scare it off.

Once the babies hatch, that squirrel may well become a meal. Last year the owls had several squirrels, along with herons and egrets, marsh hens, other birds, snakes, rats etc. They are big enough to take cats even. I never want to see that, as it's hard enough to see what is brought to the nest for food. Nature is beautiful but harsh.
