What are the most beautiful songs you've heard played at a funeral? Need suggestions.Thanks in advance.

I went to a the funeral a few months ago. Our priest sang a short song at the end of his homily and it was stunningly beautiful. He wrote it for the family.

In church, during the incoming procession with my dad's casket we played the hymn "Be Not Afraid" because my aunt said it was my dad's favorite.

A friend used her husband's favorite, "In The Garden" hymn, at the graveside service.

My favorite, is not a hymn, but beautiful...we played in the car on the way to my bf's mom's service, and then we played it at my mom's burial...Brad Paisley's "When I Get Where I'm Going"...this can be played at any stage of a service. It's beautiful. Check out the song's official video on YouTube. Whether you use it or not for your service, it's touching to watch.

Mom requested "How Great Thou Art". It was always her fav. For Daddy I had the pastor read the poem "A Bridge Builder". I remember the pastor telling me he wished his children would have that read for him.

"Abide With Me"

"Abide with Me" is a Christian hymn by Scottish Anglican Henry Francis Lyte. A prayer for God to stay with the speaker throughout life and in death, it was written by Lyte in 1847 as he was dying from tuberculosis.

I always wanted "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" but through the years, I think I've decided on "I'll Fly Away". I would love to have Jamey Johnson sing "Lead Me Home" but he doesn't know me so that's a long shot!

@Carolina925 -my husbands uncle sang "I'll Fly Away" at my husbands graveside service. My husband loved that hymn. I had never heard it before.

Thank you all so much for your input. Planning a funeral is quite the undertaking - sitting around the kitchen table last night with my DH trying to figure it out was heartbreaking - but you never know how strong you can be until you have no choice...so I think I did pretty good holding it all together. Please keep any ideas coming, songs, poems, anything - it's all greatly appreciated.

Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill. He started writing it when Keith Whitley died, but didn't finish it until his brother passed. It was also sung at George Jones' funeral service. It's beautiful and a special tribute to anyone who might have had some troubles in life. I cry every time I hear it.
