Easter plans kaput

Just when you think that things were getting somewhat back to normal, bam! After all this time of being careful, isolating, masking, and getting vaccinated, my DIL has covid. She said it's like a bad cold and all in her chest. She's starting to feel a little better though. Then my granddaughter (different family) was exposed to a friend that also tested positive, same symptoms. So far my granddaughter is o.k., and I'm hoping she stays so.

Needless to say, yet another year we are not getting together for Easter. That's fine, because I just want them all to be o.k.. We will count our blessings as things can always be worse. Wish I hadn't bought that big boy ham though. I'll freeze a lot, and will definitely be having a lot of ham sandwiches next week! 🥪🥪🥪

@LdyBugz so sorry to hear that. Is it possible to cook and have the family pick up the food? Like a drive by and pick up? That's something.

It will be over soon because most people say it's like having a cold.

Sorry your Easter plans have been canceled

Thanksgiving 2019 had to be canceled for many reasons. We had purchased a large turkey, but with no guest, hubby and I decided to donated the turkey and fixings to Habitat for Humanity so they could give it to a needy family. We were told the food went to grandparents who were raising their 5 young grandchildren, because the parents lost custody due to drug addition. Few weeks later the grandparents sent us a beautiful thank you card with a family photo, it was sent through the social worker at Habitat of Humanity. So out of disappointment a wonderful holiday was provided for a family. If you don't want to eat ham for the next month, consider donating it to a local charity. Just a suggest.

I've not for a moment thought things were somewhat back to normal. Sure death rates and hospitalization is down in some areas, but people are still getting I'll, some seriously, some long term.

Rates are spiking in many parts of the country. Mask mandates are being re-enforced. Other counties are seeing increases, closures, and lockdowns.

I think taking a rapid test is a good idea for people planning holiday gatherings.

@Sage04 Thanks for the idea. It's about an hour drive for them to get to my house, then an hour to get back home. I know they won't want to do all that driving. I'll just freeze a lot so it won't go to waste.

And yes, most in my area are saying it's like a bad cold. A lot more people at work have been out with it the past two weeks. Oh well. As they say, "it is what it is!".

All we can do is roll with the punches. I'm thankful we have vaccines and Covid medication that prevents hospitalizations. I'm thankful doctors know how to treat patients and that life has pretty much returned to normal. But... the virus is still circulating and has become our new reality. You won't have Easter together but you'll have all the other holidays.

My aunt died of Covid19 yesterday. She was 81. I will miss her.

@LdyBugz Sorry to hear that, despite your best efforts to avoid it, COVID has caught up to the family. Hopefully, DIL has a mild case and will be on the mend soon.

It’s sad when someone is healthy and then catches Covid19 and dies. I’m glad that most cases are mild but it’s scary as we never know how it will affect us.

Sorry your plans have had to change. Maybe you can have your Easter dinner in a couple weeks. My sister and I celebrated Christmas 3 or 4 weeks after the fact due to her being exposed (and not vaxed). In fact she was exposed a couple of times and never got sick. Hoping your family has a speedy recovery and you can soon be together.

@catter70 @LuvSoCal Thanks for your reply. We will definitely all get together soon. We can't complain as we've been very lucky so far compared to others that have suffered immensely. My grands will just get their Easter baskets a little late! All is good!
