What Fragrance Doesn't Cause Allergies?

Some of us have eyes that tear, sinuses that clog, and ears that close up due to fragrances we or others wear, or even because of candles or candle melts burning.

If you have allergies, what are some fragrances you can wear. (NOT asking for a friend -- asking for myself!

Allergies are as individual as the people who have them. I'm allergic to some pollen and dust but not any fragrance. There's no way your question can be answered. If you've had problems, perhaps it's best to stay away from all of them.

@Solar Is My Name Everyone's allergic response is different. The ingredients you are allergic to will be different from the ingredients another person is allergic to. It would be helpful to get allergy tested so you know what to avoid. If you know of any specific fragrancies you are allegic to, you can start by looking at its ingredients online, although many ingredients used in fragrance do not have to be listed.

If you are definitely not allergic to pure vanilla extract, you can put a drop of it on your wrist, and use that as your fragrance, but you still might want to consult with your physician first.

I suggest you read this page on fragrance allergy in DermNet NZ. Highly informative and could probably be of help to you. Just put the title and DermNet into your search bar and you should be able to get to the article.

Are you allergic to white flowers? If not I suggest trying Destiny by Marilyn Miglin.

The problem is only partly the item .... the other part is what chemicals are YOU specifically allergic or sensitive to? They are highly individual. Some people are allergic to things like eggs ... and it's not the egg's fault.

Personally, I am allergic to shellfish, so I'm very careful about anything seafood related. Both my sisters have no problems eating shellfish of any kind.

As for you, if the problem is serious, your doctor should probably order allergy testing for you, so you know what to avoid. Allergies can be very serious ... and sometimes deadly. Don't fool around with this.

You should also keep in mind that allergic reactions can change over time, sometimes with no warning.

As for fragrances, are your problems just with candles and perfumes ... or could your reactions be triggererd by scented laundry soap ... or scented whatever?

Obviously, the word "hypoallergenic" can be very meaningful when shopping, but it seems like you really don't really understand enough about your own specific sensitivites to be spending money on anything scented.

Schedule an appointment with your PCP and find out just how serious this could be .... and become. HTH

The same happens to me, especially with floral or vanilla musk/vanilla scents. All candles affect my breathing even if they are just opened & not burning.

Personally, I loved to bath & wear Philosphy Amazing Grace but after the Coty company took over -- became to "chemically" or something the fragrance truly bothered me.

Interestingly, I have AG body spritz and I spray it "lightly" then walk thru it I'm OK. It certainly does not have the full fragrance as perfume or cologne.

I truly sympathize with you, but, as others here said "each person is different". I can't be anywhere near people who literally "bathe" in cologne or perfume, esp. men🤮

And those who use plug-ins in the car & house🤮🙄

I wish I could give you a definitive answer but unfortunately, I don't believe there is one! One person can wear a fragrance or be around a scent and have absolutely no issue with it, while another can be totally allergic to every single thing about it! I, myself, have a ton of issues relating to scents and fragrances. One issue I have is most perfumes give me migraines. Most others cause me to tear up, cough, have runny eyes and runny nose, and can even make me sick to my stomach, etc! I can't burn candles or any type of melts. I also develop a rash and/or hives if I spray any fragrance on my skin. I have to use fragrance free lotion on my face and body. If you want to try to wear fragrance, some suggestions would be to try something which doesn't appear to be heavy and then spray it lightly in the air and walk quickly through it. I take a lighter scent - such as a body spray -- and spray it quickly on the top of my hair and quickly and lightly on my clothing. I think unfortunately it's trial and error!

I am not an expert, but I will say I've been down this road many many times. I have asthma and allergies and I have found 2 fragrances that do not bother me. Now remember, we are all different so what I suggest is to see if you can get a sample from either a local store such as Walgreens or Sephora or Ulta.

I can wear White Shoulders and L'air du temps by Nina Ricci with no problems. I love Channel No 5 , but I can't spray near my face or neck which this was always my favorite and still it, but my situation has caused me to wear it very carefully.

I use to like Destiny by Marilyn Miglin years ago. I did just order recently from HSN, but I will say the fragrance has changed. I sent it back immediately as I opened the bottle and sprayed a tiny amount out it was already bothering my asthma. You can try it for yourself if you want to, but it's not how I remember the fragrance from years ago.

I thought allergies, were the little things that upset something in the body, that doesn't agree with a plant, a pill, a shot, that sort of thing. An ingredient.

@Solar Is My Name I personally don't have allergies to perfume, but my neice does. The only fragrances she wears are Clinique. The line is hypoallergenic as far as skincare and she finds she's not sensitive to their perfumes, too.

What gives me a headache and watery eyes is a certain heavy ingredient in perfumes or cologne. I don't know what it is but not every perfume has it. But laundry detergents and fabric softeners are the worst. I walk down that aisle in a store and can smell it and start getting overload. I use non scented, petroleum free detergents now.

I can handle most true essential oils. I think patchoulli bothers me. So lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil, lemon, organge, geranium don't bother me. You can go to a health food store like Sprouts or Central Market and Whole Foods and see if they have testers out for the essential oils. There are brands that make spritzers of essential oils, like to spray a room or on your body. I see these at Walgreens and CVS also but know that not all brands are high quality. For example, I bought a bottle of lavendar essential oil for my bath water and thought it smelled funny or odd to me. So I read the label and it was a blend of various lavendar origins. I like the cheaper brand better that is simply one type of lavendar.

Keep in mind that there are varying degrees here .... you might not be "allergic" to something, but be "highly sensitive" to it. And it's not just chemicals that cause problems. People can be seriously allergic (or sensitive) to eggs, peanuts, or shellfish ... all "natural" foods.

This is a little off course, but I thought I'd give a heads up in case anyone would ever consider purchasing Olay Hyaluronic Acid Nourishing Hand and Body Lotion. OMG. It was sealed and couldn't smell in the store so when I arrived home I lifted the seal and back it will be going. It smells like laundry detergent that has a lot of perfume in it. I have very dry skin and I thought this would be a good nourishing and hydrating cream.

Why do companies put so much "fake" fragrance in body products? I will go back to Neutrogena or Aveda.
