Has anybody ever wondered how many Millions or even Billions of Dollars these insurance companies waste on advertising while refusing to pay Medical Claims?

Definitely! We have United Healthcare and don't like it! The commercials are a bit phony.

Insurance companies can't refuse to pay medical claims.

When you buy health insurance, that is a contract. By law, insurance companies must pay claims for covered services and in addition, they are not allowed to pay for services that are excluded from the contract.

If services are denied for covered services, it is normally because the claim had an error on it. Claims are processed by a computer.

If the provider puts an incorrect Date of birth, gender, diagnosis or procedure code, the claim will deny. Once the error is found and corrected, the claim will be paid.

I don't know why these crazy rumors are still out there, but they really are not true. The insurance commissioner would be on the company and their fines would put them out of business. In addition, they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Sometimes people try to get services not covered under their policies, but that's usually cleared up by the Service Provider, who knows they won't get paid. I guess it's possible people sign up for policies and don't fully understand them, but that's hardly fraud on the insurers' part.

I have an agent. Finally we have something in my area besides UHC. I switched to Humana yesterday.

They aren't wasting their money. Like all big businesses, they have an advertising budget that is used to attract new customers and maintain the customers they already have. Insurance companies don't deny coverage willy nilly based on whims. That package you get when you enroll, their website and their customer service reps are all there to assist us in determining what is covered and what is not.

I'm not old enough for Medicare but I find the Martha commercial to be insulting and disparaging of senior women. Of course, all of those commercials are inaccurate and some border on deceit. I help a friend with her health insurance matters and I advised her to ignore the commercials and keep the Advantage plan she has. The coverage is working for her and she can't do better.

I often wonder which is worse ... the commercials they run at election time ... or the open enrollment insurance commercials.

There is a poster on here who tapes all her shows to watch the next day. Then she can zap the commercials. Our state recently legalized online gambling. Between those commercials and the medicae commercials I have had it, absolutely had it. Off to taped shows I go. We only tape a few but its enough for these emergencies.

If you are on regular government Medicare don't change to one of those for profit advantage plans. You may regret it for many reasons.

No matter what the commercial, I mute the tv. Sometimes do a few quick chores as sometimes commercials can be long, read on my IPad, flip to QVC, do a quick chore, etc.

I detest those supplemental insurance ads. I agree that some of them border on fraud or bait-and-switch. I'll be happy when the enrollment period is over. Bad as those ads are, the political ads are worse. Talk about dishonesty! Then there are the tush ads, the deodorant-for-bottom ads, and all other manner of unwanted bodily function ads. If that's not enough, there are the medication ads. It would be nice if the drug companies spent less on commercials and devote more effort to making drugs affordable.

"Many reasons"? Exactly what are you basing this on?

My neighbor had traditional Medicare for several years, but because of cost switched to an Advantage plan. Very happy with that change. She said she's sorry she didn't do it sooner!

Needs vary quite a bit and to say regular Medicare is always better than an Advantage is incorrect .... and misleading.
