I have thought of those baby seats during the years and totally agree with you. I would imagine young parents drove very slowly.

The front seats in a two door car also had no lock to keep the back of the seat in place during a wreck! I would imagine there were a lot of brain injuries in those days too, not to mention no seat belts.

First car I owned that came from the manufacturer with seat belts as standard equipment was my 1967 Ford Country Squire Sedan Wagon.

I however had them in every car I OWNED. Why? Because they were required by all cars racing in the NHRA Drag Association. Put them in every car I owned starting with my 1950 Mercury.

Unfortunately not many people chose to use seatbelts. Uncomfortable and took much hassle they said!

Somehow even though I lived somewhat "on the edge", am still kickin it pretty well into old age!

Hahaha! I never saw a carseat like that and did not know that they existed back in my day. Kids would just sit in the back seat. I remember my cousins would nap on long drives in the area between the back seat of the car and the rear window.

It almost looks like the baby is in the drivers seat. Maybe she is

learning to drive. Never saw anything like that. Almost resembles

a flimsy swing.

We use to stand up on the back seat and people would sit on people's laps piled in the car.

I have this memory as a teen waiting for my ride to school in the mornings. Every morning like clockwork, a young mother would zip down the street in her red VW holding her months old baby as she drove.

As for the 60's carseat, looks like more of a hazard than a help. Yikes!

I've never seen anything like that. At least the baby is buckled in. I thought the "car seat" was the parent's lap.

Oh just noticed that the buckle is only to the car seat which is just slung over the back.

@SeaMaiden We also rode in the back of a truck and sat on the hub over the wheel !

I can also remember having a wreck on my bike or my mini bike, no helmet or pads like today. If you wrecked, they said "get up you are okay." We were tough!!!
