Devastation in Dallas suburbs

Friends, please keep those who lost everything - and I mean everything - in the F3+ tornadoes (11 count as of now) that tore through Texas last night and hit hard in Garland and Rowlett. There is literally nothing left in some cases. Schools without roofs and walls. Two churches pummeled to the ground. More to come as daylight breaks.

On one heavily traveled intersection, cars were picked up, tossed around and piled on each other as they made their way. Lost lives.

How some of these folks escaped from the rubbage that is left, is a miracle.

Prayers for those who are still in shock and are coping with devastating loss.

That weather was truly devastaing, imagine having to start all over with nothing. The loss is beyond comprehension, the feelings of despair monumental. We must pray that these folks are able to move forward knowing that life may never be the same.

We live in the southwest corner of the metroplex and so we were not hit. The area that WAS hit we refer to as north Dallas.

Because this is a heavily populated/traveled area, many videos that innocent by-standers caught are interesting to me.

Warning sirens were going off -- I wish more had gotten off the road.

The original reports were that the path was 2-3 houses wide. This morning it was revised to 18-29 houses wide.

Many Red Cross and other organizations are helping.

In 1975 I was in the middle of the huge tornado that ravaged all section of our city from South to North and over a mile wide, It went right up one our main streets taking out business after business and home after home.

I was in the basement of a strong building with hundreds of others. We stayed there until it was safe to leave after given the "all clear" by the city. Will never forget what I saw when I stepped outside. It looked like bombs had exploded as far as my eyes could see.

For me it was fortunate I had parked my car on the East side of the building. Those on the West side were piled 3-4 high on top of each other. Buildings that were there when I drove in were gone, some not even a sign they were ever there.

It was hours before the Police would let is move more than a few yards. Power lines were down, crackling and sparking amongst the ruble. Cars where I had parked were beat up with windows on outside mirrors ripped off from the wind and flying debris. My Mustang was beat up pretty bad, but still in pretty much 1 piece.

Took years and years to rebuild parts of our city, but some parts were never rebuilt and never will be. Still many stark reminders of that day in 1975, that changed our city forever.

Every time I see news video of disasters such as this, I can't help feeling so bad for those that lost everything. My thoughts are with all effected by these disasters.

I am here in the Dallas Fort Worth area still celebrating extended family Christmas when the tornadoes hit. The damage took place about 40 or 50 miles from where I am but we still had terrible rains and we thought there might have been some hail. Yesterday it was hot here. today it is cold. My prayers for all those who suffered such terrible loss. And I am glad that our old friend John ( hickrynut) is ok. Sounds like his experience was terrible. They are telling all to watch for flash flooding after such hard rains.

Such a terrible thing to have happen over the Christmas holiday. I haven't caught much news so I wasn't aware of how bad it was for those of you in TX.

I truly hold all in my prayers.

Texas is well known for tornadoes, and many times they appear out of no where with no warning at all.

Many areas also do not offer real shelters like other States have.

I lived through many of them while living in that state for years. I was never at ease, and am very well aware of the lives lost and devastation which occurs.

It is very sad when Mother Nature takes what is precious as life and property, destroys them, and then eventually dissipates.

How utterly devasting for all.

May God rest the souls of those who died, and help the living rebuild their lives. May he also hold them in the loving palms of his healing hands, and comfort them with eventual acceptance of all their sorrows and losses.

Tornadoes used to just happen in the spring, or so it seemed - now they're all year round! Freaky!
