Want an opinion

I was put in a situation today,that made me angry.i hosted a shower with 4 other ppl.i bought the gift card,and thought I would get reimbursed, minus my part.well,three of us pd,but the 4th one didnt.i have no idea if she just forgot.so I sent her a txt,asking if she could send the amount to me,so I could pay the charge off.by the way,she is my sisterinlaw.should I have just forgotten about this,or do what I did.we all brought breakfast items,including her,but she's the 1 who mailed homemade invites.i also offered to help pay for stamps,but at the time,she said it wasn't necessary. Any advice would be appreciated

@Luvsmyfam I think you did the right thing, maybe she forgot or didn't have cash or a check with her. This is providing that she was in agreement to split the costs before the give card was purchased.

If she doesn't pay after your reminder, I would figure that she isn't willing to pay her portion, and lesson learned, to not go in together on costs with her again unless you don't expect reimbursement.

Has she responded to your text?

You sent her a text message, has she not responded? What did she say? If nothing, then chalk it up as loss. In the future, get monies upfront.

So next time you will know, get the money upfront.

You did the right thing, text and ask for the money. Doesn't matter who it is relation or not, that was the agreement and get your money back.

Not cool of her to ignore your text. As others have said, lesson learned. Next time get the money upfront if she's involved. Not paying you shows her character.

Well, I would be irked....if you texted her and she did not reply, I'd let it go, but I would not be involved with her again when it comes to money, unless you get her share up front.

no she has not texted back.it was at her home also.before I left for her house,she asked if I could pick up a bag of ice.i would never take money for that of course

Hope you weren't out a lot of money @Luvsmyfam . I wouldn't be happy with her right now, but nothing you can do about it. At least you'll know for future events. Take care.

I’ve had that happen to me too. I hate asking people for money even though they agreed to go in on the gift but I did and they eventually paid. I don’t volunteer anymore to pick up a group gift.

thing is,of course I see her at family functions,which if this turns into a hot mess,I will be uncomfortabe.every host there has a spouse.so if they blow money,they are taken care of.i am on my own for financial things

@Luvsmyfam She should feel bad not you. I would text her daily to get your money back. I am very familiar with these kinds of people. It is an artform for some to get over on others.

Hope it works out for you. Don't be shy with her. It was agreed on that she should pay her share.

If the amount she was to reimburse you is less than $50 than I'd let it go if she does not respond. However , I'd never again agree to go in on a gift with her .

I've had this happen before with family , so I can appreciate your angst .

The event was at her home, she made invatations, mailed them and paid for the postage. I don't know how much the gift card was for, but I would let it go. If she does not reply to your text, just forget about it.

You asked for her portion of the gift card, as you should have, if she chooses to ignore your request, let it go.

As you said, it's not worth feeling any animosity at future family events, but I wouldn't forget it either.....lesson learned.
