Question about cell phone

I am looking for an easy to use cell. Just want to call and use when we are shopping. Between us we make about 10 calls a month on the cell. Also have a land line and are happy w/that. We are wondering if maybe we don't need 2 cells.

I would probably just get a flip phone. I'm glad I saved mine. When my fancier one dies I'm going back to it. You sound like me, you do not have to have that cell phone in your hand or pocket at the ready every moment of every day.

I have a fliip phone from AT&T. I pay $25 every 3 months or when the balance gets down to $5.00. 25 cents per minute. I can text which I rarely do. I can also take pictures, which I rarely do. Had to trade in my 3G phone for a new 4G ($68) but kept the same plan. Works for me!!

For safety, a cell phone is important. I find a smart phone much easier to use than a flip phone, but I would say, just have one.

Quick history: We had a lovely flip phone that we paid for by use. We were told it would be obsolete sooooo we thougt we should look around.

We do not text.

Why would we need a smart phone? I am trying to gather as much info as I can from other sources to make a good dscision.

Flip phones aren't becoming obsolete. 3G is being discontinued; next year everything will go to a 4G network. Maybe that's what they meant.

I have a flip phone which has texting, photos, internet, radio, etc. I don't use it for intenet since I have computers at home.

Go onto HSN's website, flip and reg phones for about $50, that's a year of service and plenty of minutes.

I think that's pretty cheap, I just got the Motorola one from them and it works great.

Another who prefers my landline! Had a flip phone for a very, very long time and loved it, but the carrier stopped "servicing" my little used and old-style cell. I bought an LG phone and used it for several years (but never really like it). I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G and I love, love, love it! Didn't think I'd ever care for a smart phone, but it's easy to use and so convenient with the calendar, I finally text, and so much more.
However, my preference remains my home phone which I'll never give up!

My husband has a Smart phone; 'his cell' is with him 99% at all times,eg,

He does more texts than calling.

Myself:

If needed to communicate, I use the Internet. I have kept our original Land Line ONLY for my many long distance calls usually family/ friends for over 2 hours, or the WAIT time to have a live ENGLISH speaking supervisor

The newer Smart cell I have has 80% features that I have no use for..just not into games, reading POP UPs of Hollywood, people in news, etc. BUT! Do carry in cat for emergencies. I actually liked my flip phone for its non advertising junk.

I can and do work from home, at this time teaching medical people or researching. My Smart cell was bought if the need was ever deemed necessary.

When I had an older type Flip phone, that was for ONLY emergencies when out. All calls for me GOES to my husband's phone # through Voice mail which I would return asap.

Very seldom ( SELDOM ) did I have or wanted to use cell phones.

My husband's Smart cell gift 2 weeks ago ( a love gift ) that he thought I would benefit immensely..... if out of the country or town for days- weeks.

"I" do not need 2 cell phones if I have the Internet super speed + the land Line. For my opinion, just a toy for me....I have no time with my profession which keeps me in over time~~~~B U S Y!

Strangely though, I was using my FLIP phone w/o any problems two weeks ago. Question: do you have a simple pc laptop?

NEWER CELLS: There are many makes, models to choose from costing from

$30.00 -to - $400.00 ++++++ // my cost was $200. Loaded with Gadget, Games, Advertisements, Constant news, and Internet, also.

If you're satisfied w/ older flip, then keep until the battery totally quits. Mine was 7 years old, and if using recharge cord, I never had a problem.

Like the 60s- 70s song... ````Got along without you before I met you, can get along fine without you```

As mentioned before... ((My opinion)), only.

Also, if buying from store, let the IT guy set it, transfer all data and any photos. Have someone spend time with you explaining every single detail. NOTHING like the older flip.

My husband programmed 'all' ' for me, and there it sits' in case. Used approximately four times.

Techie things do not, nor did interest me, and I do not have a chatty mouth texting as my life line, either.

Again, my personal opinion or myself. .

You had better make sure your phone supports at least 4G and/or LTE even if it is a flip phone. Support for 3G will be gone soon enough as they roll out 5G. I only say this if money is important to you. If you don't mind having to buy a new phone very soon, it's best to go ahead and invest in a phone with at least 4G, LTE and 5G. Don't know if they come in flip versions. Do they?

I was going to mentioned your suggestion .... JITTERBUG -flip- phone (in red) that is advertised constantly, but thinking the poster wanted to keep the flip she owned and had been using for years. Although, did not know anything of the newer Jitterbug.

Did you know that LG phones are going bye bye? The surplus is being purchased by thousands of former LG owners constantly. Most tech store have no more, as I am learning.

I know zero about LGs on any shop channels..never bought, nor have seen.

I had read earlier - approximately (TWO) ago that there are / were/ families who always preferred using LGs since its concept, and will be using only LG phone.

Surprise for me to have read. But focusing on artifical components, electroins and robotics. Apparently LG is a losing business in phones.

There is a Rebel and Stylo 4 & 5 q10 still available w/another carrier...believe I have this info correct?

There was something about, if still owning, the service is still available as long as w/ acc't -w/ pre paid.

There is a simple mobile available for $29..

Checked around to verify IF .... the LGs (some) prices are very high. That I heard.

Maybe you can educate me on this: my high school (now teacher) best friend has an Apple iPhone costing $1K.

Apple iPhone: That particular one had taken weeks for her to understand last fall. Our son had mentioned that brand, but said not that impressed vs the one he has.

I asked that question since you posted the JitterBug, but certainly does not mean as to assign to a senior.

I have read through magazines - for Seniors.

The newer version appears to me, being a convenient step up for her w/o the add on. Hoping she views what you posted.

For those who think they will never need or want a smart phone....

I added my 83 year old mother to my plan (got the phone for free). Showed her how to text, take pictures etc. She lives being able to take pictures at events, is always texting her friends, children, grandchildren , even gets notifications of weather alerts and community reminders. Oddly enough she has trouble making phone calls so wouldn't totally disregard a smart phone.

Probably a Trac Fone. I'm a little confused. If you want to use it when you are at the mall, you do need two phones.

You maybe able to find a service guide for the phone online.
