Help with what something is called!

I'm searching for handles for french style doors and what I need is one that has what I call a back plate: I need an approximate length for it and a certain width (to cover some old holes!) and I'm finding very limited options. I think I'm not calling it what it really is. So what I'm looking for is the style handle that also has that plate that sits flush on the door underneath the handle or as part of the handle. Just fyi, I'm needing 4 of them (1 for each side of the two doors). Can you help with proper search terms? I feel like there should be more options out there! Also any recommendations on where to shop online for them would also be very appreciated. I'll try a picture here for an example

I think you are correct to call it a back plate. Sometimes also called a pull plate when used with a push plate for swinging doors.

They do not seem to be so common and are really rare for small dimensions.

There are a lot of them on Amazon but they all look pretty much the same.

That's quite a long backplate. Didn't see any that long.

I suggest you use wood fill to fill the existing holes, paint over them or stain depending on the finish of your doors to cover them up. If the doors are vinyl, I'm sure there is something to use to plug into the holes.

This size is about average of what I'm seeing

@Kachina624 Thank you - the website was very helpful to me! It didn't have what I need, and too expensive, however I found the search term for what I'm looking for: a pull plate or a push plate. So, that information has really opened up the search for me.

@ECBG @decaf @Foxxee @mspatmac Thank you all for the replies. I'm definitely going to check restoration hardware. Can't believe I didn't think of it myself - i LOVe that store. However, it maybe be too pricey for what I need it for. we'll see! I'll have fun browsing, that's for sure.

I'm in the process of getting an older lake home updated and renovated to put it on the market for sale, so I'm trying to keep costs down. But I want it to look cute - look the best it can be. Not only because it's going up for sale, but because it was a family home. I didn't realize that one of the doors was missing a handle and the others are a bit mismatched, so I'm trying to find something that covers the holes, doesn't cost a fortune, and can get to me fast. it's supposed to be listed the week after next!

Well, if anyone stumbles across something, I need the base to be 2" wide.(cld be a little more) The length could be 10 - 12" or maybe a little longer. Black? I'm open. It's for nice interior french doors. One room has cathedral ceiling and beautiful wood panelling, the other side has white walls and lots of windows. Both sides of the door should have the same color door handle, right?

@Still Raining yes, I didn't see that you wrote that before, my brain is a bit overwelmed with my task of finding the perfect handles - that must be why. reading comprehension can be the first thing to go! yes, a pull or push plate.

what i'm finding is the ones I really like and are fairly well priced have a plate that's too narrow. sigh.

@Foxxee I'm going to see about that (filling in the holes and staining). It's certainly what I would prefer to find narrower, sleeker handles. I have to talk to the people who are actually doing the work for me - they have a very long to do list that needs to be completed by a certain date coming up very soon, so I'm trying not to add anything else for them to do or trying to not add anything that's not absolutely necessary. But we'll have to see ......

@ECBG I may take you up on that! Thank you. There are so many big and little decisions I've been making that I'm feeling the 'fatigue' at this point. Wish I had noticed the handles sooner - hate these rushed last minute things.

The reason why I was asking about if the handles need to be the same color on both sides is that the two rooms are so different. On one side ithe room is darker with the wood walls and floors, beams and cathedral ceiling. One the other side it's just pretty much white., white walls and ceiling. So, as not to be confusing - a set of french doors divide the two rooms. One side of the door is wood color - the other side is painted white! So far I'm looking for black door pulls. I'm just wondering if that would be appropriate for the white side. but probably, right?

It is usual to use the same hardware on both sides of a door.

Homes usually carry an overall theme like country or traditional for example, therefore, the door knobs won't have a lot of variety.

The house I built is a two story cedar with a wrap around porch in the woods. My theme is country antiques.

I have a brass door know on the front door the style of the 1800's.

All of the rooms connect. When you look from one room into the next, the room looks like it "belongs".

Check out Wayfair. I don't know if they'll have the handles but they do carry lots of household items and their prices are really good

I'd say, unless you have done this already, go to the hardware store in your area. There's the large one, and I don't want to mention here, in case we aren't supposed to. Every town has them, I think.

@moonandthestars Did a quick and dirty search on google ("long door pull with back plate") and found one 12" in Amazon (Dimensions: 12" H x 3" W. Pull: 9 1/2" L x 2 1/4" projection) called "Large Traditional Door Pull with Rope Back Plate in Oil Rubbed Bronze" and thehardwarehut dot com seemed to offer several options. historichouseparts dot com had an "Iron Door Pull with Backplate" 14-3/4" tall by 3-1/2" wide.

There were other results to my search that may interest you.
